2004 Charger replacing Intrepid
New September MT says Charger will be the name of the new rwd sedan replacement, not just a model in the lineup based off of it. Engine choices will include 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, and 5.7L Hemi V8 for the R/T. There may also be a sportwagon in the lineup.
I don't have scans of the sketches from the article, but the styling is much less "in your face" than the '99 concept. The front end somewhat resembles the new '03 Viper (smaller headlights and sans foglamps) and the rear looks pretty similar to the current Intrepid. The front quarter panels also flair into the front doors as done on the Viper. It has suicide doors for the rear passengers.
Hopefully the R/T will contain some styling cues and be more aggressive looking. I'm sure the Charger loyalists will be looking for more just as was the case with the '04 GTO sketch.

I actually liked the '99 Charger concept. It was instantly identifiable as a Charger, while not looking overly retro. It is the route that the GTO should eventually go in.

There were 3 areas that I did NOT like about the '99 Charger concept. The front and the rear are 2 of them. They just looked 2 chopped off and not enough thought was put into the details. I didn't not see any family resemblance or any nods to the past cars. I did NOT see Charger in the ends of that car. The 3rd thing I did not like was the 4-doors. Come on. The Charger was a 2 DOOR muscle car. Not a 4 door family car.
They should keep the Intrepid name for the 4 door and call the 2 door (if there is to be one) the Charger. And get the front and back to resemble either a current Dodge or the '69 Charger R/T SE if they want to go retro.

Not to pour water on the Charger fire here, but sheez.... what a slap in the face to the Intrepid nameplate!
Intrepid was the car that brought Chrylser out of the dark ages...
Like it was said already, at least retain Intrepid as the 4 door... let Charger be the 2-door!
(Look at me.... defending a 4-door family sedan. LOL!)

Here's the concept I've seen:

Seems about right, a toned down version of the old one.
I like it. If they built it for a price I could afford, I'd be glad to go home with a Hemi Charger.

and if say the Mustang or Camaro came back after a few years like 15 to 20 years of not being there and you got the SN95 Stang and the 4th gen Camaro..people would say they dont look like pony cars..compared to the cars of the 60's..if it hauls like a charger then it is a charger
there were 2.2 Chargers in the 80's..they chargers???

Not to turn this into a mopar forum but...
I think they should make it a 2-door with the Extended Cab like doors in back but keep the concept's looks. That would be cool. I have a 3 year old and shoving a car seat into a Camaro is a pain. However I'm not about to trade my penus in for a Monte Carlo or a Impala just yet. Give me a car that looks like a 2-door sporty car and can swallow my lil family and I will pony up the dollars. The manufacturer that can do this will get my $$ whether they are GM, FORD (prob not), or Mopar. Why waste my money on a "NEW" camaro that does everything mine does. If I am going to slap down $28,000 I at least want to feel like I'm getting a NEW car with NEW features and not just pay for the NEW car scent.

I HATE those little suicide "door-lets". Whoever thought of those should be shot. They so totally ruin the look of a coupe.
Not to mention you have to except the squared off rear opera window in order for the door to work.
No thanks.

I agree with Hu. More than 2doors are for old farts and families. If you can't push the seat forward and get out, die already!
WON'T buy a Charger with 4 doors.

or when you end up driving around 4 people for decently long distances...
Since I have a Camaro, I never drive when out iwth friends because nobody wants to sit in the backseat when somebody else has a full sized car or suv.. I dont' really mind.
