Wow, what timing!

This just in:

http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=6854

Here's an excerpt--

"The sporty Chevrolet Nomad concept vehicle, first shown at the Detroit auto show last month, is tentatively approved for production by mid 2007, while an assortment of other sporty spin-offs of the new Kappa "architecture" are set to follow, well-placed sources tell TheCarConnection.com. These include a new Chevrolet coupe, a hardtop Buick convertible, and the long-sought "entry" model for Cadillac."
Nomad is on for 2007 (unless something comes up).

Whoever made this article made the same mistake a few other people did who follow what GM is plotting over the next few years. They are mixing up GM's RWD chassis programs.

Kappa is the small sport coupes that is bringing up Nomad, Solstice, Lightning, and the Curve.

Zeta is what Buick's hardtop convertible will be based on, as well as Chevrolet's "coupe" and Cadillac's 3 series coupe competitor, as well as GM's upcoming full size cars replacing the Bonneville, the Park Ave, and quite possibly returning the Chevy Caprice.

Then there is yet another chassis that is based on Zeta that is likely to be the replacement for the mid-lux line at the end of the decade.

Finally, there is a rumor that Kappa will serve as the basis for a subcompact sedan for Pontiac (Sunfire's real replacement?).

Cadillac most definately will not be moving down market from the CTS.

Buick was considering a Kappa car, but they are waiting for Zeta.

General Motors is planning a pretty wide range of RWD cars. It's just that alot of people are having a tough time imagining how far GM is plotting to go.... and why (last week's criticism notwithstanding) I'm really bullish on GM's future as long as they have the current management running it.

Kind of goes with what I was suggesting in the other thread about a Zeta AWD vehicle being either a Cadillac or Buick instead of offering AWD on the Zeta-based 5th gen Camaro.

Don't forget about the Chevy Speedster, a Kappa car Solstice clone with Corvette styling cues. That is what the Popular Mechanics Detroit Spy Report is reporting
