1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
Formerly known here as the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique. Probably now best compared to our Futura.
Seems to be the 1st Ford influenced by the Ford Reflex. Not bad looking I'd say.

Re: 1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
Our company owns a slightly older Ford Mondeo in Germany. 5 speed little 4 banger I believe. It was ok to drive although nothing special Typcial Euro style crap.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think this sells over here in the States?

Re: 1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
It is a nice looking car, and I see a lot of German influence. I can't help but notice that the car borrows many clues (purposely or coincidentally) from VW Passat. Some elements (the front) from the current-gen, and the rest from previous gen, esp. the greenhouse and the rear taillights.
Very nice car, so is this European model only? Any chance of seeing it in North America without uglifying it for our inferior North American tastes?

Re: 1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
I know Ford is taking some flak for it's new "3-bar grille" theme... but, I have to admit... I actually think it's pretty nice looking.
The only one I think it looked really over-the-top on was the Super Chief concept, and that was an over-the-top concept to begin with.
At the very least, Ford seems to be adapting this theme to their cars much better than Chevy did with the whole Chevy Spear idea on the cars....

Re: 1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
the front looks like some sort of audi and the back looks similar to a prius
not a terrible looking car though, but its not a head turner -- probably what they were after.

Ford Mondeo is the euro version of the now extinct here Contour.
If Ford bothered to style their midsizer like that, I might give them another shot when I replace my aging SVT Contour. But they didn't, so I wont.
Re: 1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
The Mondeo is a really good car (not GREAT, but above average for it's segment). I have ridden in SEVERAL while in Europe, and I have never been disappointed. A company we do business with in Coburg Germany has a Mondeo wagon, with a gas 4 cyl and a 5 spd (it's a 2002 model I believe). I was utterly AMAZED at how peppy and good-riding the car was on the Autobahn.
I have some images of a Mondeo test car at home... I'll try to post later if I can rmemeber to. Also, a test mule Ka convertible!!! I thought that car was a neat ride too.
As far as this car coming stateside... I won't say anythings not possible, but I think I'd rather see them import some bodywork from Australia over this. It does have one thing going for it though... the Mondeo is already RHD, diesel and gas, and pretty much crashworthy to US standards. That's what made teh Contour easy to certify for US sales. I just think the Contour went too "bubbly" when the fad started going back to crisp edges... people just didn't get into the base units despite being really good little cars.
The SVT Contour was in fact Colletti's personal crown jewel by his own accounts. He fathered it here, and truely thought that was Ford's best shot at a "global sport sedan" that was as good as anything out there for the money. I think he was right too...

Re: 1st photos of the new Ford Mondeo
i'm tired of sounding like a broken record. i mean, it's possible there's a bit of "the grass is greener" mentality going on when i see cars for the EU/Aus markets, but why in the world, can't Ford and GM do such tasteful designs for NA already? I can't believe the US designers/stylists are that bad that they can't turn out a design as good as the guys in Europe and Aus. so what/who is holding them back??
