03 Show cars are a huge disapointment.

You're right.

At the Auto Show, most of the concepts sucked.

Why is everything a Station Wagon now? Crossover? I don't think so, they are station wagons. When has a station wagon ever been cool?

I was impresed with the SS, except for the horribly ugly grill cross bar.

The production Chrysler Crossfire is pretty cool looking. Cadillac 16 and Ford 427 looked good. Although the Ford logos on the 427 looked terribly out of place.

As for the Mustang...........Has there ever been a really good looking mustang, ever?

Finally, the production GTO is a joke. How ugly. I can't wait for some chump who didn't buy a Camaro or Firebird and buys a GTo thinking they have the fastest thing on the road, and think that this **** ant Camaro next to him is a joke, then blow his doors off.

Enough ranting.

I actually really like wagons, but I don't like all these crappy crossovers.

Some of them aren't even wagon styled, just tall sedans (Dodge Avenger).

But wagons can be awesome.

See:
Dodge Magnum
Mazda Protege 5
Lexus IS300 Wagon
Subaru Impreza Wagon

I hate that cross grill bar too. It looks like it'll be easy to take out if the car comes out that way, though.

Every new concept I see, they say "In today's fast paced world, we realize you need X from a sedan, Y from a truck, Z from an SUV. Our vehicle combines all 3 in a brand new unique package" WTF?? Whatever happened to singular purpose vehicles? Sedans are almost a dying breed. I mean do we really need a Porsche SUV and a Maserati SUV with their "new and innovative" features?! Come the f*** on. Seems like nobody is making PURE cars anymore.. it's all the rage to take separate issues and mix them together into new and fugly and dysfunctional crossovers. Pretty soon there will be no new ground to "cross over" into, since all of today's cocaine-inspired ideas are covering all bases. "Our latest exciting product is a crossover between a crossover and an SUV that cannot go offroad" .

I'm disappointed. My favorite concept has been the G6 by far. followed by the SS, 16, a few Fomocos like the Messenger, the new Rolls Royce, etc. I like SW's too. The Hemi SW is pretty decent compared to some of the other junk. 90% of the concepts are pure junk nobody asked for.

Station Wagons RULE. Sometimes, you need a little more practicality, but you still want the hangling and performance (and even economy) of a CAR. I think it's wonderful that you can get really sporty wagons such as VR6/w manual, AWD Turbo WRX's, Hemi Powered Magnums, Turbo Volvo Wagons - all with manual transmissions no less...

I was also hopeing GM would show a 500HP RWD Camaro for under $20K, maybe next year.

the nerve of GM, who would want a 430HP Chevy sedan, 285HP AWD Pontiac, or a 1000HP V16

Your right. The nerve of Gm SHowing us cars that they will never make that nobody ever asked for. Putting awsome motors in cars that don't deserver or need them. People get excited about performance cars. Not everyone one can affors one. But alomost everyone dreams of one. That Caddy thing is almost as stupid as that ricockulous Maybach. GM will make nothing that is a concept at this years auto show. I wanted to see some cool sports cars like last years auto show. I was looking forward to a 2 door RWD Hemi dodge concept. Last year has some really cool cars that might find there way into the showroom. This year has some really stupid concepta that better not find there way to a driveway.

BTW- There is one cool station wagon..... THE NOMAD

Yeah, why in the hell would they want to boost Cadillac's image anyway? You need to realize that not every concept car is going to be targeted at you. Strange, I know, but true.

BTW I think the Sixteen has more production potential than you think.

whatever happened to small-to-midsize 2dr coupes, minimal design, no frills, stiff suspension, big tires, huge V8 RWD drivetrain, and things like A/C delete availability. I admit the GTO goes a long way towards this pocket rocket idea, but it's by no means minimal. the only concepts getting the worthy motors are things like the Hemi S/W which has grown on me but which is way too heavy, the Hemi truck, the Silverado SS extended cab we've already seen.. and plenty of Fords. I like what I see in the Messenger and I appreciate the new Mustang's mentality even though I'd never want to own one. Then there's the Aston Martin, etc. seems if you want a strong motor and a fast simple car you are required to carry on lots of additional "innovative" baggage or go to the competition. America's love affair with the automobile didn't happen from cookie cutter all-in-one crossover deathtrap SUV's that tell you what you want even though you didn't know it. it happened from functionality, thoughtfullness and having a vast vast number of options to satisfy everyone's individual tastes, and as far as simple RWD V8 coupes born to drive which we're lusting after, where are all the choices?

unrelated:
Maybach: it's so huge and its doors open so wide that you can't even reach the rear door handle to close it. It's not even close, it's like 3 feet from your reach. They have a lever on the roof on the inside which you pull to close the door. utterly pretentious, but I'm sure rich f***ers it's targeted to will appreciate it.

I'll believe it when I see it. I agree with Turbo SS. Putting a 1000 hp engine in a concept car that will never hit the street does not excite me. Sure it is a nice car, but it's not exciting if your looking at the only one that will ever be produced.

You know, I bet that's gonna happen. When I go cruise Woodward and Telegraph this summer, I bet I'm gonna the same crap the BMW owners give me from the GTO owners. They look over with the expression on their face that says "Yeah right, I paid more for my car, that means I am faster. BTW, I am also king of the road."

PS. The Ford camp really has some nice cars though; The 05 Mustang, the new F-150 and the Lightning.

I disagree about this year's show cars. I think there are a bumper crop to be excited about. We are truly living in the new golden age of street performance! The new Lightning, with a supercooled intercooled supercharger! New Mustang, honking supercharged V8, looking like the meanest Mustangs from the 1960's! The Hemi Magnum with its chopped profile and rumbling V8! The Chevy SS... with its Camaro-esque and Chevelle heritage on its sleeve! The G6, 285 hp and AWD, sleek, Solstice-like shape, which Bob Lutz referred to this week at NAIAS as 'virtually identical to the upcoming Grand Am'! The Chevy Cheyenne, winner of four NAIAS design awards, bringing back cool memories for me of my K5 Blazer! The Buick Centieme, with 400 TT HP and AWD! Gads... what more do you want?
