Re: [PICS] Ford Shelby GT500 Vert

that car is ugly..

just for comparison sake, whats a stock LS1 run with a 6lb blower on it? how much hp? are they more evenly matched then?

Though I think VW had a V4 once upon a time?
sorry didn't think that one through

At just over 4000 lb., the convertible carries this extra mass mostly behind the driver.
No sports car should weigh that much, even in soft top form

he helped/had input on some of the design work, probably did some testing of it as well. And he let Ford use his name.

you can thank the govt for that one, with the crash standards changing everyday, cars are just going to get heavier and heavier (at least in the near future) The Camaro will most likely be just as heavy.

I like it. I'd take a C6 at that price, though. Performance should be similar, since the Vette weighs like 800 pounds less, and the appearance is more inline with my personal taste.

I think the Camaro will be closer to 3400-3500 lbs than 4000. Just guessing.

$45K for a mustang? A 4000+ lb mustang?

But you forgot, the GT500 is a competitor for the new Z06. Same/similar power for $20k less would be very appealing to a lot of people.

I don't really like the vert version of the new Mustang, makes it lose it's classic look.

Assuming the internals will hold up to it. I remember discussion about Ford not using the exact same internals as the Ford GT in this 5.4L.

As for this car competing with a Z06... Call it a lower price alternative, but it's definitely not a competitor anywhere except maybe the dyno.

What internals did they use then?

Re: [PICS] Ford Shelby GT500 Vert

Most likely lighting engine internals mix with GT internals. and it will hold up 600HP (al least the engine will). I saw a lot of lightings with that amount of power without any problems with the engine.
I think that that car will be a killer to drive, just swap pulleys (maybe ported supercharger) add some tuning and cat-less exhaust and you should expect 600RWHP and ability smoke Z06.
We all know that those cars are totally different, but in the straight line they will perform very similar (after some mods for cobra). And since 90% of the people don’t know how to drive on the curves the straight line performance is what most folks care about…

And people call the GTO's pigs....damn, this new Moostang is HEAVY. And for that price, might as well buy a "base" C6.
