Zinc washed rotors?

Just went to my firrst AutoX and I'm hooked

I need brakes

I'm looking at the Baer Track kit, and I will be going with blank rotors, but what are everyone's opinions of zinc washing?

Is the zinc washing worth it?

Thanks

No. I've been autoxing and road racing for a number of years and don't know anyone who gets zinc wash. Save your $ for tire upgrades, that is the best spent $ for autox. Even after you have scrimped and saved for those stickies, your $ is then better spent on suspension upgrades like swaybars and bushings for starters.

Yes you do

Zinc wash has no performance affect, but does keep your rotors nice and silver looking, without rust.

Done, and done

I know the zinc washing really has no performance effect, so I guess my question really was whether or not the zinc washing protects the rotor from rust for the life of the rotor, or just for a couple weeks...

I guess I do know someone who does this! So how much does that run you?

The zinc coating will last the life of the rotor. It will wear on the pad contact surface, but that stays shiny enough while you're using the car anyway. I think it's an additional $10/rotor or so.

Zinc washing keeps the portions of the rotors (which are not touched by the brake pads) pretty and clean, but add no performance benefit.

I like the zinc wash, but it does add more break-in time, before the pads are bedded on the rotors.
