What problems to look for in buying used autocrosser/road racer?

I am in the market for a used car, and came across a very very nice deal.

I woudl like a 6-speed but may have to sacrifice for an auto.

but look at this car...

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...r=&cardist=192

Basic break down of it...
97 Z28
Auto
t-tops(I want them)
black
leather
65,000 miles
Subframes
complete baer brake upgrade
lca w/ relocation brackets
eibach springs
17 in SS rims
CAI

All for $7k Do you think the tranny might be trashed? I assumed it was put in 2 ro 3 and the gears ridden up and winded down, not sure if this is severely detrimental on an Auto, and even if it is woudl 65k of it be bad?

Please respond quickly as this car will go fast, I am looking maybe to call him and see if he will take a deposit wihile I get a loan.

don't do it!

if you really want a 6spd, then wait for the right car! I did that once.... and only once. I bought an auto because the deal was too good to pass up and it was a nice car. However, the whole time I was wishing I had a sixer. Wait for the right car, there are plenty of them out there.

Not really they are all 90k plus, and cost more then i want to spend with a car that has 100k and is usually a 95 or earlier.

this thing does has 65k, is a 97 so newer looks to have been taking care of by an older car enthusiust($1500 brakes )

I am currently driving my 2nd v6 f-body and niether had t-tops, so i will have fun of exploring the t-tops and the v8...

besides I seem to have bad luck with manual trannies.

You need to get on the stick dude! Call him and find out. Besides, you're gonna rip on it too. So what's the big deal. The auto probably will survive better than the manual when autocrossing. The dragstrip... probably the oposite. This car has lots of good mods already. Talk to your dad. Talk to the seller. **** or get off the pot, man!

heh I have been tlaking with the dad about it... I know I am going to rip into it, jsut do not want a headache after making a big dump of money, (I might be a little more easier on this car till its paid off. I need to check out some banks and loans, insurance might be a killer, luckily my parents still take car of my insurance, and I found out its only like $1200 a year for me now. I am having a hard time with my dad on this cuz he wants me to take over payments on his v6, and look to get a C5. I am trying to see if I can get this one on my own 100%

Actually I was even considering in the back of my mind if you wanted to do a brake swap for something like $400-500and your ls1 brakes( if oyu thought it reasonable, if I did get this car. Personally the hawk pads and my lt1 setup is alot of brake for my car, and I figure same setup with ls1 woudl be better, I wouldn't care about the Baer setup because its just rediculous.

Luckily my girlfriend is graduating, and I am moving in with her and another girl into government subsidized apartment(need one non-student to qualify, my girlfriend) so my rent will be cut in jsut about half, along wtih a few other bills since me and my girl always lived together, but had seperate apartments.

jsut this car will be my first car paymet(well cash loan payment) I have had, jsut I my life expereince on 3 cars just makes me thingk car payments are bad, of course the newest car i had had, 93k on it, and went about 15k before it had a problem other then routine maintenance.
