suspension tips please!

Alright, my dad and I enjoy driving aggresively and we would like our suspension to reflect our style of driving. We want new suspension and our goal is for it to be able to handle our aggresive driving and we want to loer it about an inch.

So, I was thinking we would get Bilstein Shocks and Struts and Eibach lowering springs and top it off with a 3 point strut tower brace. Sound good? sound Horrid?

The shocks are a good idea. I have the Bilsteins and love them. I would switch the strut tower brace to a Suspension Ttechniques 35mm front sway bar. That way you can hit the corners hard with much less body roll. If you decide that you need a strut tower brace after that, then you can get one. Also, for the springs, many people like linear rate springs, whichever brand you get. My best advice is to call Sam Strano at www.stranoparts.com He has worked with me on my suspension, and he is a great guy to talk to. He knows f-body suspensions very well. He frequents this section of the board, so you may actually get a response.

Cool glad to hear the bilsteins are good(although there isn't much competition). I was thinking about giving strano a PM or a call since he seems to be pretty well respected in here.

So you're saying I get a sway bar instread of the strut tower eh? Well what about just getting both? We plan on making this a pretty aggressive car anyways so as long as there's no detrement to performance we'll probably end up doing both.

also, whats the difference between linear rate springs and regular springs? I've never heard of/seen the things.

thanks

A linear spring rate maintains the same rate throughout the compression of the spring. A progressive spring will start off softer and get stiffer as the spring compresses. It is much more difficult to match (valve) a shock to a progressive rate spring.

I second the 35mm bar.

ok but you didnt really answer his question i bought an SLP STB when i didnt know near as much as i did now, and spparently still dont know much so is it a bad thing to have a STB and a 35mm front sway bar? cause i was planning on getting a ST 35mm front sway bar with all the required hardware for $135 from jegs.. will i need to take off my STB?

also whats the deal with the rear sway bar? i need to replace my springs/shocks (have 42k miles on the car) but wont be able to do it for a while and ive read that a big (25mm) bar in the back can actually be to much and cause the rear to break lose on the turns.. so would a hollow 21mm bar be better? future mods are in my sig and YES i WILL have them all.. one day

The STB and the sway bar can both be used without having to do anything special for the install. All that we are saying is that you will see a bigger difference with the sway bar. The STB can't hurt, but it won't have the effect of the sway bar.

If I were you, I would try the front sway bar first by itself and then see how it works with your driving style. If you still think you need a rear sway bar, then buy one after the front sway bar is in. Most here feel that the rear sway bar is good. I believe them, because I'm already sliding out the rear end on corners because I like to throttle through the corner a little. A bigger bar in the rear would just make the car oversteer more.

ok great! the ST front 35mm sway bar is good to go for santa

NEXT mod: im planning on getting some new shocks and lowering springs soon so these parts will need to be adjustable and id need the relocation brackers for one. but im not sure what to get next so i will list what i have and you tell me what i need next. and btw i am very rough on my f-body and i drive mostly on curves and corners.. not many highway miles :/ autoX style is win

have:
1) SFCs
2) ST 35mm front sway bar

not sure what to get next:
1) adjustable LCA's (heard the best about Spohn's)
2) adjustable Panhard rod
3) am i missing something? cant afford shocks/springs now so dont put that here

also with those parts id be getting the rod ends cause ive just heard/read way to much crap about poly bushings.

WEll, since it doesn't sound like it matters what class you run in, I'd say #2 then #1.
