Has anyone installed a belt to bypass the air conditioner pully?

Go to Autozone and get a A/c delete pully and a A/C delete belt.

I don't think you can bypass the AC compressor without removing it. If you do choose to remove it, you can use the stock length belt because you have to replace the compressor with an AC delete pulley.

I'm planning on doing this over the winter myself. The part number for the AC delete pulley should be 10115875.

I used the pully and a stock replacement sized belt, the old belt was stretched and would not fit, but I dont see how you could bypass it and maintain proper tention especially since the tensioner would now be worthless.

Is there a belt that can be used just to bypass the A/C on an LT1? Still want the A/C for summer but want to be able to bypass by changing belts if necessary.

Don't mean to be short, but see above.

You can simply unplug the AC if you wanted, but I dont know that you'd get any benefit at all, half the benefit IMO is just simply getting rid of weight, so I wouldn't bother if you want to retain your AC.

Again, I dont see how it would be possible, in the old days you created your own tension usually by moving the alternator around since it was on a sliding bracket, however on this car you have a spring loaded tensioner, and you'd end up taking it out of the loop if you used a shorter belt without the AC.

Re: Short belt to bypass A/C

if this is for your 97 V6, then you dont need a new pulley. my belt id 62 inches and it goes around my alt to the power steering, around the crank and then around the water pump. you can drop the alternator to help get it on, and the tensioner pulley will keep tension on the belt. you can leave your a/c on and you dont have to unplug it. if you aren't going to use your a/c anymore i would recommend you pulling it out. it only takes about a half hour and it weighs about 60-70 lbs. if you have any questions i will post a link to a pic of my route.

just turn the AC off. it uses very little power when it is not on since it is clutched.

Wow, 2 years later I get a correction. Well, I got an A/C delete pulley from Lambert as many others have before me and it worked great. Don't have the part number in front of me if that number was incorrect.

I didn't want to say anything, but there is no water pump pulley on a LT1.

FYI, Ford did build airplanes.

The Ford Tri-Motor was one of the famous ones.
