I wanted to change or mod my accelerator pedal (1998 SS) to make heel and toe downshifting easier. Can anyone suggest a manufacturer who makes a good accel pedal or an easy way to make/modify my own? Thanks for the help.

 

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a small acrylic cutting board. I've seen them in several colors and they are about 3/8" thick.

Take some measurements, draw yourself a pattern and cut it out with a jigsaw. Sand the rough edges, drill and countersink some screw holes and use wood screws to attach to your existing gas pedal.

 

or you could check out your local import type shop. I seen some that have this adjustible plate on the brake pedal and gas pedal. So that you can adjust it for heel/toe downshifting. Costs like $25 and they look pretty good.

 

I have some LG Motorsport pedal covers and like them alot. The grip is much better on your shoe. Also they are very thin and light. Easy to install by drilling two small holes and putting in small screws with nuts. They are worth it.

 

Careful if you get LG's pedals. I have to say I was disappointed w/ them actually. The gas pedal is great, but the other two are flat w/ 2 horizontally lined up holes that drill on a curved pedal. ??? So the only touch the pedal where the screws are and when you press on the pedal, your straining the bolts. 1 broke (brake) while I was driving, so it pivots on the remaing bolt to half cover my clutch. Not too happy about that (for $79 no less). So I went back to stock for brake and clutch and kept the gas which is very well done (but not worth $79).

I have the LG pedals and really like the grip and feel that they have. I would suggest that you step up to a one size larger bolt. I have broken a couple and replaced them with a larger size with no problems.

The bolts are like .85 cents for a whole bag of them.
