Handling: Bigger or Smaller?

Do wider tires up front help handling? I've heard both. What's the truth?

I'm new at auto x but I would think the more tire there is, the more tire contact to the ground, meaning more grip

Just my 2 cents

More grip, but I believe more difficult steering.
