Future Plans

Hello guys,

Long Time forum reader, time to become a forum poster. I'm soon to be going into the Air Force and I have a V6maro that I have some plans for. With Air Force cash I'm planning on a 427, but I don't know what kind of suspension, tires, wheel size I would need. Could I get a tid bit of info on that? Also, the 5 spd in the V6 isn't the T-56 that's in the SS. Z28, Vette, Viper is it? This will most likely be done by LPE, then to GMMG for exhaust. Feedback would be AWESOME.

Welcome to the board, The 5spd is NOT the T56 (the t56 is a six speed). IS the 427 going to be a small block or a big block? That will help us answer your other questions.

I got a friend that just went to AF basic on October 4th. He's over at Lackland AFB in Texas (You'll probably end up their too, they seem to do most of their basic training there). His last name Lecompte, if you meet him tell him Mike with the 93 Z/28 says hi.

Hey bud welcome.

Got-LT1 covered the transmission question for you. As far as your suspension/wheels question id suggest trying either the v6 forum or roadrace/suspension forum.

I'll move this over to the roadrace/suspension forum. Thanks.

Call SLP. They sell a complete suspension kit that includes Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs (lower about 1"), 32mm front sway bar, and lower control arms and panhard rod with stiffer rubber bushings. This is basically the same setup that came on many of the Camaro SS and Firehawk cars and is a good solid package for everyday street use, and will also work well for drag strip, autox and roadcourse use. I'm not sure what rear sway bar size the V6 cars had, but if it's not the same you would also want to get the 19mm rear sway bar from a V8 car. Yes, you can build better suspensions than this, but the SLP kit is a great all around performance kit that will ride close to the stock quality of the V8 cars, but will give better performance. For wheels, you could keep the stock ones, but I wouldn't recommend it with that kind of power. I'd step up at the very least to the 16x8" stock V8 wheels, but would really recommend going to 17x9" with 275/40ZR17 tires. If you really want to go all out, get some ZR1 replica wheels with 17x9.5" front and 17x11" rear running 275/40s in the front and 315/35ZR17s in the rear. You can find these easily on Ebay for a reasonable price. Personally I'd get them from AFS (sells on Ebay or direct) as everyone that deals with them seems to have good results. I've heard horror stories about a few of the other Ebay wheel vendors.

The 427 will be from LPE so I'm thinking small block.
