Front wheel drive
Front wheel drive
I got a a chance to drive a front wheel drive vehicle for the first time around an pseudo autocross course recently. Normally, in a camaro, I would brake early, roll into the turn and try to get on the gas around mid turn. I'm still not sure if this is the best way to do it, my times are pretty slow.
This just wasn't cutting it in the front wheel drive car because it understeered really badly, the car would just slide to the outside when I tried to turn. So I tried something different. I braked fairly late and noticed that the car got sideways if i braked hard and deep into the turn. The thing is, it is incredibly easy to just gas it and transition from oversteer to understeer in this particular car. This allowed me to be on the gas all the way out of the turn.
I guess what I'm asking is if there's a way to force the camaro to oversteer like this and still be able to come out af the turn and on the gas early. Whenever I oversteer, usually because of too much gas, giving it more usually makes it worse. Can a use the brakes to induce oversteer then somehow still roll the gas without the car spinning out?
There's another autocross next week and I'd like to try something new. Never gonna learn otherwise. All help is appreciated.
