exhaust question

Hi, I currently have no muffler on my car but I want to run stock class. I'm assuming this is not legal in stock? But I was wondering what would be legal. Is getting a cutout and/or a high performance muffler legal for stock class? I don't want to lose the sound or extra power I get from not having a muffler but if I have to, can I get a cutout and just block it off for autocrossing if it is in fact illegal?

Exhausts after the cats are free (provided them meet sound restrictions) and terminate after the driver.

You don't need anything more than a pipe after the cats if you don't want to. Exhausts do effect torque and horsepower. I have a Loudmouth (might as well have no muffler), it help HP and hurt torque. However, it didn't hurt torque much and I have wheelspin problems anyway.

If I had it to do over, I'd sell myself on an SLP two on the left, or possible an Edelbrock system. I've used a few of those, and they sound nice, fit nice and don't break the bank. And showed torque gains too.

Gains with which? And this was on an LS1, not an LT1.....

The loudmouth lost about 10 foot pounds down low, picked up about 12 hp over about 4k. The Edelbrock picked up a couple of foot pounds from stock, and about 8 hp. Of course it weighs more and is quiet (nice sounding, but not really loud).

Not unless the site has a sound restriction that you exceed....

Thanks for the info. I was just about to ask if I could put a cutout after the cats on my car for SM, but I think this covers me.

Sam, I see you're registered for F Stock for the nationals. What made you decide to run that class instead of ESP this year? (...if you don't mind me asking!)

Tommy said he was going to co-drive with you until your co's car broke. Sounds like he might be getting rid of his car.

I've been running F-stock all year. Had no intentions of running in ESP this year. F-Stock on the east coast is a lot deeper, and running there really helps my driving vs. winning more easily (not that I couldn't lose, but there are less folks so it is easier).

I feel bad about the Tommy thing. He wasn't sure he could get there, so I offered him a ride. Then two days later another friend had some car issues and needed a car to finish the year in. Mike had ProSolo points that Tommy didn't, and since TP wasn't even sure about going anyway, Mike ended up in the car.

Sam, I want you to know that thanks to your parts and Tommy's help, I only ended up about .4 seconds behind him at the last autocross. Tommy gave me a ride in his car right before my final run and I dropped almost 1.3 seconds! There's alot more in the car, I've just got to get back into the swing of things. It sure felt good after 12 years off. Out of 210 drivers I ended up 9th fastest and PAX'd 13th. Tells me the car was faster (and has more) than I was! Oh yea, Tommy PAX'd first of course. I was 1.5 seconds off his PAX time.

The parts worked great. My two instructors (Pete and Jonathan)at the Evo school said it was the best handling car out there. They said it felt like a "Strano" car!!!
