Drag radials in autocross...

I have heard it working before but what about a set of Drag radials on the rear of a Camaro, and maybe something like V700 victo racers in the front...

I seem to be pulling more and more good times out of my car(new best last night) and looking to mod, so it will likely bump me out of stock. And a little better grip at the line woudl be nice

I've used the Nitto 555RII up front with the 555R drag radial in back with good success for street and roadcourse use. I'd be hesitant to run something so different as the V700s up front and the Nitto DRs in the rear. Also, the Nitto DR is the only one you would want to consider, it is actually much more of a street performance tire with sticky tread than it is a true drag radial. It is the same tire as the 555RII road race tire, but has one less sidewall belt.

I have had good luck running Nitto drag radials at both autox and on a road course. The 17's feel a LOT better than 16's. They perform extremely well, and last a long time.

Plus it is a no lose situation. If you lose, you can blame it on the drag radials. When you win, it is fun to rub it in that you just beat them on drag radials. To quote a friend, it is kinda like street racing a quick truck.

My roommate runs around w/ drag radials, I hate how she gives in the corners. The sidewalls on the DR give easily causing tire rollover. I have a set of G-Force T/As on my ride which obviously has the stiff side wall, has a much better feel entering a corner. I see very little advantage in running a DR on the rear. Why not just run the Victor Racers all the way around???

I've talked to a friend about how to approach a turn w/ DR, he said something about planting the tire, if this is true, taking the time to plant the tire before entering, hurt times???

I tried Nitto DRs once last year at a fun event with Kumho street tires in the front. I wont do that again.
On the first run the car pushed horrible, on the second run it was neutral, after that it just kept getting looser. By the time I made my last run I thought I could have been in a drift competition, I was sideways so much.
The course was dirty, wet and very abrasive. Tires: Front 245/45/16 Kumho 712, Rear 245/50/16 Nitto 555-R

The sidewall height was probably why they felt so bad. I think most people that end up using Nitto DRs for autox/roadcourse are using the 315/35R17.

Can't give any autox advice, but when running the DRs in a 315 on the rear with an 11" wheel for roadcourse use, I typically run at about 38psi. Depending on how the car acts, I adjust from there, but that usually works just about perfect for me.

I shoot for 39 hot up front and 34 hot out back with 315 Nitto drag radials. The sidewall height on a 275/40/17 is exactly the same as a 315/35/17.
