do tubular lca's bind?

I know good lca's are a must in drag racing, but I have heard that the tubular lca's bind in road racing or auto-x. Is this true? Do boxed lca's bind also? Does it matter who the manufacturer is? Finally, how benificial are lca's to road course or auto-x? I know those are a lot of questions, but I am new to the art of turning

I believe it is not whether it is boxed or tubular not so much as that the polyurethane ends that bind. That is why most autocross or road racers use rod-ends, as to not have the binding effect that poly does.

You can use poly on one end but not both, otherwise it will bind. Rod ends will make you ride a lot noisier and harsher but you can do it.

ah cool thanx, i can see why there would be a difference. how much noticable would rod ends and poly be in LCAs? like would i really notice a rougher ride and more noise in daily driving?

A good compromise for a street car would be a poly/rod-end unit with the poly bushing on the body side, and the rod-end on the axle. This will give very little noise, but will also help prevent bind.

QUALITY rod ended components generate no more noise than poly bushings.

I'm running rod ended LCAs and PHB from LG Motorsports and it's as quiet as stock.

Seems like we have some disagreement here, lol

Sorry for the dumb question but what is binding? What effect does it have on the car? I will be buying some LCAs here within the month and was planning on buying poly ones. I do not autox but I like to haul *** on offramps and such lol will the poly LCAs bind on me?

Yes, they will bind. Do not do poly/poly.

Not really.

Some of us get noise from our rod ends, some of us don't.

Regardless, for corner carving purposes, I think the poly/rod LCA's and Panhard bar are great mod's. If I bought again, primarily for autoX purposes, I'd go to a double adjustable rod/rod configeration.

For the street, I'll be putting the 1LE pieces back on the convertible, and if it's just too much of a step backward I'll try just panhard first.

so would a poly/rod LCA be the best way to go without making a lot of noise? i dont need any more rattles or noise then i already have who sells them that have a combo like that, or do i have to change the ends myself

I'm running the Billingsley double adjustables with QA1 rods ends and they are fairly noisy on bumpy roads. The heims are not sloppy and there is still noise. They were a huge improvement over my poly/poly Spohns, but you pay the price with the noise and cockpit shock.
