I haven't seen a kit for these cars, but basically I understand it consists of a pump, some lines, and of course the radiator of your choice. They are used in GT and other class cars.

I would use the system GM sells for the C5. It is listed in the GM Performance Parts catalog. It includes wiring harness, thermal switch, heat exchanger, pump, plumbing, etc. It is not a dedicated Vette only system. I've seen them installed in 3 different locations on C5's.

If you want to make your own kit, Check out Coleman Racing Products or Stock Car Performance. They both carry pumps and exchangers for that purpose.

I've also seen them installed on C5s but does anyone have any experience with our F-cars to say they're needed in anything but an endurance road racing application?

Sounds plausible to me, although it would be interesting to know what temps they do reach. Do you have a finned rear cover? Most people are happy just going with that.

right now it's a stock rear cover, I was just curious as to if one even exsisted, I wonder if this could be useful as a hook up in a manual tranny as well.....any thoughts on that?

And as a side note, how do you guys know so much of this stuff? Aside from you've been doing it for a bit, is there any resources you guys have access to that I should know about so as to not ask a bunch of "elementary" questions?

As always thanks for the info

Corvette ZO6's come with a transmission temp sensor. It only operates an idiot light, but at least lets you know that the tranny lubricant is too hot. At Road Atlanta, ZO6 drivers often have had the light come on, and they just take a couple of cool down laps which always turns the light off, then they get back on it.

They have basically the same transmission that 6 speed Fbodies have. Their ratios are exactly the same that the '93 Fbodies had, before GM changed the Fbody final drive to a 3.42:1 for '94.

So could you rig up a tranny fluid cooler for the M6 the same way you would on a diff?

Where would the hoses be routed into the two at?

Would you literally just drill a hole in?

Go to http://www.z06vette.com/ or corvetteforum.com and search for "transmission coolers" or similar subjects. I have seen links to step by step sites with pictures. There is also a common warning to get the latest GM T1 cooler setup. The earlier version didn't have a filter, and the pumps failed quickly.

Bob,

Yeh, I've seen some local Z06 owners have to slow down when their tranny temp lights comes on too. What a nifty device. I was thought that the reason the tranny gets so warm is it's away from pretty much all air flow and that the C5 was worse for underbody air flow than our cars. I have no idea what temp my tranny fluid gets to, or my rear diff. I'm just wondering if anyone in a F-body has this kind of info from 20 minute sprints, etc. I doubt I'll be doing any enduros in the next couple of years.
