The 712's are a cheap tire with fancy tread. I think Soma (Jason) used to have them. William (NBM 99 Firehawk) used to run them. I don't think they were really great tires for autocrossing though. It seemed like they got real hard and had little traction after a while.

Nah, never had a set of 712's. Mostly because I don't like the way the tread looks. You're probably thinking of the Yokohama ES100's I had/have. I ran a set on my 16" wheels and I liked them so much I bought another set for my 17's. (The 16's are for sale BTW).

They're probably a little quicker than the 712's but not as fast as the Kumho MX's that Jim runs but hopefully they will last longer. I'm hoping I can get a year of daily driving, ~15 autocrosses, and an Evo school on them.

I am not really planning on running the 712s for autocrossing..

Mainly dialy driving, with agressive driving... I think I might just go with the 712s, they are just so cheap... cannot go wrong with $107 a piece for 275/40/17. Now jsut to round up some money...

Actually very much an considering buying your old 16 in. yokos for my stocker 16s to run in autocross, and maybe the strip... Though I might try the 17s with 712s one autocross to see how they feel.

...jsut could use some money... really need to hound my boss abotu when my raise is gong through I am pretty sure I have some money setup for the 712s... Maybe I shoudl take a student loan out for uhhh yeah books... thats the ticket, books. Well if I did take out the loan it would be for school maybe The Evo school

an jason you are being VERY optomistic
