Confused about the curb weight..

I am now currently looking into a 'fun' car to get my feet wet in some solo1/2 so I am looking up what kind of potenial the f-bod's have as compared to some other cars including the sn95 mustang GT's(gasp I said the m word! hehe)
Basicly I want to build a car that intimidates viper's, 911's, and z06's in every way imaginable.. hehe
Anyway..I have read the lt1 fbody hardtop+manual tranny weighed about 3450lb's give or take and after doing a few searches about weight and weight reduction I have read that a few ppl's cars with mt+hardtop weight about 3800lb's!!!?!!?!?!?
I hope there is something I am missing here becuase that is allot more weight then I want to deal with.. even if its with a car that moves like stink.
Also I have heard its hard to shed weight off these cars as compared to other cars at simaler weight(assuming that it does 3500lb's) like the mustang GT(@#$@ he said it again..) and that completely gutted race only camaro's weigh about 3100lbs... I just dont see how this can be tbh.. with fully loaded cars like a 240sx's wich are also rwd 4butt coups weigh at or under 2700lbs stock...
What kind of long term curb weight goal can I get with out gutting the interior and those misc. things that improve the cornering abilities like sway bars and whatnot.. ?

thanks

Depending on how much stuff you can remove or replace and still stay in the class you choose, 4-500 lbs is possible. Weigh your car first.

IMO, with your stated goal of beating Vipers Z06s etc. your F-body's weight problem is mostly with distribution. It starts about 55-56% front, and would be difficult to get close to the 50-50 or so of those other cars.

If you want to run in a classs that lets you do almost anything, and you have enough money to spend on it, you might get there. It would probably be cheaper to just buy a Z06, however.

If you are new at solo (auto-x), my advice is to get your feet wet in a smaller, cheaper car (think Neon) and get some professional racing school time. A whole lot of the story in this kind of racing is the driver.

Not what you wanted to hear, I bet.

My $.02

get a pre-1995 5.0 for 4k, turbo kit for 7k, internals 2k?, driveline for 3.5k, ect ect

weight can be under 3100 lbs.

a lt1 you can get a lt1 down to 3600 raceweight, you can have a n20 10 second car, maybe cheaper than the mustang turbo route but less hp of course.

as far as intimidating z06s/vipers at a roadrace....

maybe rx-7 ls1 conversion, maybe.

My cars raceweight is around 3470 (with me 165). T-top, M6 trans, cloth interior, no power seats. Weight reduction: removed back seats, all a/c, egr, air pump, jack, spare, 1/4 tank gas, skinnies.

Get a non t-top, M6 with cloth seats, not power. Power leather seats weigh a lot more than the cloth ones. Or just replace them with racing seats. I havnt done all that much weight reduction and without me in it it's at about 3310

Ive seen LS1 cars (ws6/ss) claim weight of 3700+ lbs... but my car with cloth, power drivers seat, t-tops, A4, bose 5 speaker, spare tire and all... had a healthy curb of 3405lbs. 3540lbs race weight. I have since done a A/C delete (~40lbs total? condensor, lines, compressor, etc) and Ill be removing the spare tire. I would expect a curb of 33xxlbs and race weight under 3500lbs. My friend has a firebird with a LS1 (Magnus) his current weight is ~2700lbs I think. Gutted of course.

I weighed the car on a truck scale, without me..so the curb is accurate. I just added my 135lbs to that to get my race weight.
