Question Brake Questions

Is there an inexpensive way to make my brakes work better? Also my pedal seems to go further down during track days. Is this because of the rubber brake lines? I've put on Performance Friction Z rated pads and the fade is much better but want them to inspire more confidence. I only use my car for track days and autocross, not racing, so I don't want to spend a grand converting the whole system. The car is my daily driver. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Along with many others, I found the PFC Z pads pretty bad on the track. When I used my car more on the street, I was using the PFC Street pads, which are a good street/track combo pad, much better than the Z pad. But it yours is track only, you could use some good track pads. I've used the Carbotech Panther (better than either of those PFC pads), and just got a set of the Hawk HT10 pads (dunno how they'll be yet).

If you haven't changed and bled your fluid within the last 6 months, do that first though, and yes, some braided stainless brake lines will help the pedal feel.

Its easy enough to change pads, so get a set of track pads and use them only to go to the track. I like my PF93 pads on the front with PFZ pads on the rear. The PF93's are $200, but I have real brakes. I'd also suggest changing to hi temp fluid. Try ATE550. I'd also highly reccomend a set of brake ducts. Even ones you make yourself with dryer vent are much better than none. Stainless brake lines would be nice, but I'm not allowed to run them (I race mine W2W in a stock class). My brakes still aren't the best compared to other race cars, but they do work and I haven't had problems.

I am using Valvoline synthetic brake fluid which I flush regularly.
Does someone make brake ducts for these cars?

I've never seen a brake duct kit for our cars, but the following links might help you out. I just built some similar.

i just replaced my PF Z rated pads, they felt unsafe on the street they were so bad. I had my garage flush the brakes 3 times in the past few months because I just couldn't believe that they wouldn't grab at all. I have heard good things about the racing and street pads, but something seems wrong w/ the Z pads. I grabbed Hawk HP+ and it grabs so well I get rear wheel hop when I stand on the pedal. W/ the Z pads my ABS would never come on in dry weather unless you went over a bump...

I change my fluid before every event with the FORD HD fluid. It has a 550 heat rating and is very good and cheap. It only cost about $4 a bottle.

I use PFC pads... I have used PFC 90's..Z-rated and the carbon metallic. I have noticed very little difference in any of them at the track.

They all do an adequate job and they certainly work well enough to make brand new rotors look bad after one weekend.

After 4 seperate track events in the last 6 months I have experience brake fade only twice and both times were as a result of the REAR brake pads going to the metal.

I have got C5 brakes setup in the garage right now and just waiting on tires and wheels.

get rid of those Performance Friction pads. The Carbon Metallics and Z-rated pads are terrible. I've had both. I now have Hawk HP+ pads and they are sooooo much better. Not even a comparison. I can't say much about the PF90 or 93 compounds. Never used them.

I have Performance Friction Carbon metallics up front and stock in the back. I was just on the track Monday and didn't notice any fade. Are the Carbon Metallics the Z rated pads? I have talked to people with the Z rated pads who said they get little fade on the track and I'm trying to figure out who's right. Thanks for everyone's input
