big wheels

I have a 96 camaro ss with 17x9's and 275 on right now. How wide of a wheel can i run without having to roll out my fenders etc. I would like to run 17x11's in the rear, with the stock 17x9's up front. Will this allow me to run 315's in the rear? Just out of curiosity, what about 17x11's up front? Just wondering. Any help would be appreciated.

Wheels=50mm offset.

In back you will have to roll the lip. No matter what anyone says. You Will have to beat in the inner fenders. You will need an adjustable PHR with Rod ends.

In front you will need a 1/4" spacer and will have to replace the studs. Right above the tire you will need to cut out a 2" wide by 6" long piece of the plastic inner fender. There is a thin metal lip pointint toward the tire. A few light pecks and it will be fine.

FWIW the front fitment of 315's IS MUCH EASIER than in the rear. The grip is amazing. BTW fitment is tire dependant. The only 315 tire that has been on the car is Kumho V700's. I may be going to Hoosiers. I would need to run a 1/4" spacer in back also. The Hoosier is a full 1/2" wider in section width!

Ummm... You're trippin. I put 315's on the back with no modifications whatsoever. They bolted right up. My car is also lowered 1.5" The only time that they ever rub is when I have four people in the car and I hit a huge bump. Other than that, they're perfect, never rub, and they look raw!

FYI: Do NOT get the ZR1 offset (36mm). You MUST get the Grand Sport (GS) offset (50mm). Otherwise, you WILL have to roll the fenders!

Pics are in the sig.

Every autocrosser I know of that has or is using 315's had to roll the lip, bang in inner fenders, and add a PHR.

Lowered 1.5". Someone else must have installed them for you and you did not see them beat the **** out of the inner fenders. Or someone had done it befor you bought the car I cant beleive that you did noting

What did you do in front?

Its all basic stuff. All I know is that with all the stuff I have done I still have rubbing on the LCA. So apparently something is up. Of course that is with R compound tires. 315 front and back me

If you're driving aggressively at an autox or twisty mountain roads you will get rubbing. Whether you have a street tire or r-compound.

I have to bang the **** out of my inner wheel wells, rolled the fender lip and I still get a slight twitch rub sometimes on hard corner exit.

If you don't hear any of that you're not driving the car even close to the limit....

I've taken my car to the limit many times. I get no rubbing. Maybe I'm lucky. I've gone to Racetracks and Autox and they never have rubbed.

It also depends on your springs. If you have the stockers, then they are soft and you car will squat more while cornering hard and on corner exit. The Sportlines will also rub. They drop the car more than 1.5" and they have less travel, so the 11's are a bad choice with these springs. I have the Pro-kit, and I have no problems. But, like I said before, maybe I'm lucky.

Oh yeah, my car was completely stock when I bought it, and I have 9.5" on the front.

I CORNER1 = I CORNER address (at home)

I have owned my 1994 Z28M6 from day-one (also black like your photos). In 1998, I first lowered the car with Eibach Pro springs and then installed the AFS ZR1 combo 9.5/11" replica rims (chrome like yours) with Dunlop SP8000 tires (like your reader ride listing shows). After looking at your photos, it appears that my car rides slightly lower than yours (maybe 1/3" to 1/2" lower). The Dunlop SP8000 tire has very "round" shoulders and had no contact with the outer fender lip (unless I rarely had 4 people in the car and hit a moderate to severe bump). However, even with the 50mm offset, I had to pound several areas of the inner wheel-well in the rear (no big deal and quickly cleaned-up with undercoating).

The Dunlop SP8000s were horrible dry traction tires (my 245mm/16" Bridgestone RE-71s could run circles around the 275/315mm SP8000s). Since then I have used Yoko AVS Intermediates, Advan A032Rs and Kumho Victoracer 700s (waiting for Nitto Extreme 555RII's in 315mm size), which all have a larger footprint with square shoulders. With these tires, I had slight scrub on the outer fender lip with just driver and 1 passenger on moderate bumps or myself (6"2" - 225lbs) on hard bumps. Switching to a softer Global West rear spring (for better rear corner exit hook-up) only aggravated this.

I just rolled the outer fender lips (carefully) this weekend and so far I have not heard any rub on hard bumps. In fact, today road construction boxed me into an area, where the road made a dramatic uneven step (8 - 10" at a 60 deg angle) going to an office building parking lot, I was able to get into the area by going further down the road and using the newly paved section. However, I was forced to leave the area by dropping off this step. My car has insufficient clearance to slowly drop over this large of a step, even at an angle. Therefore, I had to approach at an angle, gun the engine and essentially jump off of the step. The rear tires did not appear to rub when I landed!

If you are still using Dunlops, this may explain why you have had no problems yet. If you go to more aggressive tires, you will.

You're probably right. I too plan on going with the nitto Xtreme II's. I'm waiting for the sizes just like you.

I've found a good deal on some 1992 Corvette rims that have been widened to 10.75 inches. Will these fit? What if any mods need to be done?

Can any of you guys tell me how to roll my fender lips?

There was a description of how to use padded pipe (which I tried with good success) and of a possible special tool which attaches to the axle.

Be careful and patient.

Just wanted to update everyone. I got the 315 Nitto DR's, and they actually look narrower than the dunlops. Anyone tried running the next size up? I have had no rubbing issues whatsoever either. Just FYI. Later,

Brian
