Find an SCCA event. They are run in a safe manner. You could try local clubs but if something does not seem right it isn't
FWIW I saw a 89 IROC a couple weeks ago that has been autoxed since new. With very sticky tires and buy a multi time national champ. The ONLY damage I saw was a small hair like crack in the roof. Even the doors still shut nice and tight.
