Question Anyone tried these tires?

I just got and installed Toyo RA1s. Its an 'R' compound thats very streetable (wear indicator of 40). I've read reviews and all were positive. They guy I bought them from raced the World Challenge series for a while (not in a Camaro). Supposed to have good feedback and breakaway characteristics (no hold.. hold.. hold.. SLIP! like a slick would). On a smooth concrete floor, leaning about 30lbs of weight on the tire I could not rotate it left or right. Seemed to grab very well This car isnt a daily driver and I put about 2-3k miles a year on it, so I think they will last me to next spring. Kind of a shame to spend what I have in suspension mods and have the tires let them slip away.

The tires he talked me out of were the Nitto NT-555s.

I believe those are the spec tire for NASA's Camaro-Mustang Challenge. I haven't heard too many complaints about traction, and apparently some guys are getting an entire season out of one set.

I hear from the local Auto-x guys that they arent quite as sticky as Kuhmos but last alot longer.

These tires are not top-notch, but are supposed to last longer than most yes. For those that can choose what tire they run, they DO NOT TOUCH THESE.

People run them because they have too, CMC does use them yes (shaved only), and thats what I've been told about these tires. They are sponsored from Toyo, so yada yada.

Tirerack.com doesn't even carry Toyo that I've seen, FWIW.

Thanks for the replies! I was not looking for a top notch R rated tire, but more of a shortlived grippy autocross tire. It a daily driver that sees about 3-4k miles a year, and these tires are actually quite good in the rain. I didnt want the super aggresive treadwear 0 tires, so its ok that they are not the best, but they seem much better than the avs Int. I just took off. The sidewall seems a little softer on the toyos going over bumps though, which I was suprised about. Still need to wear them in a bit to really get them to their peak.

Thanks!

Thumbs up

I just put the RA-1s on my 95Z28 M6. They are very very sticky and I am pleased except I got 245/45/16 and they are a little shorter than I would have like appearance wise. I have only run them on the street so far and could not get them to slide, but I had Eagle GSC before which SUCKED!!!

If what I have been told about good wear is true i think they are an excellent tire
