alignment specs
alignment specs
I am in need of some caster/camber/toe specs that will give me a good bite on a road course but isn't too extreme. I am not worried about normal road driving for tire longevity since the car is only driven occassionaly.
-.7 to -1.3 camber
4.5 degrees caster
0 toe to 3/32nds toe out
More negative camber is usually better (up to -1.3 to -1.5 degrees).
More toe out will sharpen turn in, but the trade off is the car will be "nervous" on sticky tires.
I run:
-1.3 camber
4.5 castor
1/32nd toe out
I drive it daily and autocross it as well. I got 30,000 miles out of my last set of front tires on that alignment (still had tread when I removed them, but they were reasonably worn).
Hope that helps.

You basically want as much negative camber as possible (up to 2.5 or so). This will affect your ultimate grip in a corner. You also want as much caster as possible (up to 4.5 or so). This will increase negative camber as the wheels turn and increase the centering feel of the steering. Toe is tricky. If you really are using the car on road courses, then I would not dial in toe out. Toe out makes the car turn in well but it is also less stable at high speeds and more likely to get skittery under braking. When you are hard on the brakes at 135 mph coming into Turn 1 the car is going to really get funky as the front suspension compression increases and makes your toe out even more toed out. The car will want to wander around and not track straight. Kind of scary if you are trying to optimize your line by staying close to the edge of the track on corner entry, especially if there is an outside wall that you are hugging. Anyhow, speaking from experience, I would only use toe out for road courses if you have a very stiff front suspension and don't mind giving up stability for turn in. Autocross is a whole different ball of wax...
