98 z28 build up
98 z28 build up
A little history of the car i'm using.
98 camaro Z28. There's no drivetrain in the car. I blew the engine coming home one night. (stupid HPP3+ls6 intake+full exhaust = lean engine).
I'm going to build the car from the ground up.
I have a UMI front end stage 1 kit with lower adjustable A-arms chromemoly option.
the plan is to do a full UMI front end
QA1 double adjustable up front and double adjustable QA1 coil overs in the rear
chrome-moly adjustables LCR, Pan hard rod, TQ arm tunnel mounted
Chrome-moly roll cage
2 front race seats with 5 point harnesses
Aftermarket tach, oil pressure, oil temp, engine temp, volts
Now I'm not sure what engine/transmission/rearend I should setup with. I'm looking at a 12 bolt with limited slip, T-56 or TR6060 transmission, and not sure what engine / power level I should be looking for.
how's that sound so far?

I guess a good place to start would be to ask "for what?". What kinda racing are you looking to do? Auto-x, road racing, etc? Figure that out and decide what class/series you want to compete in, then read up on the rule book for the class you want to run. You could also try www.frrax.com, it's the F-Body road racing and auto-x forums. A lot of corner carving f-bod drivers there, you can glean a lot of good information just by reading what's already there!
Yup, what do you want to do? Use the stuff you're buying, or pose on the street?
I've got a "stock" car, with the exception of 1) Bilstein shocks, 2) 800/200# springs, 3) PHB and 4) solid lower A arm bushings (stock sways, 265hp motor).
Last month in Road and Track, some guy named Steve Millen drove a new Z06 at WillowSprings in a lap of 1:34.xxx. My Z has done 1:37's. Not bad for 1/2 the power.

Sounds like me 10 years ago. I was convinced that throwing a catalog full of "upgrades" at a car would automatically equal fast lap times.
WRONG!!!!
Install good shocks, decent spring rates, a good seat, a roll cage and Carbotech brakes and then get as much instruction and seat time as you possibly can.
You'll save a ton of cash and your lap times will dramatically drop.
