69 Z28 - Bad steering issue

I’ve got a 69 Camaro with a 383 and 10-Point Cage… set for the Silver State Competitions in Nevada. My problem is that the handling is “squirly”.

I’ve got Eibach Springs front with new competition asphalt springs for the rear. Stock Upper and Lower A-Arms and Edelbrock IAS Shocks for the street (when not competing). I’ve added Spindle Extenders for a little more negative camber.

The alignment shop in So Cal is really bad. They returned the car to me with the steering wheel “crooked” at the 1 o’clock position and did nothing with the Caster or Camber. The steering, on long sweeps, feels like it isn’t turning but with just a slight turn of the wheel seems to dig in and turn sharp to the direction of steer. So, it doesn’t want to turn then overcompensates… not oversteer. But this is at 70 MPH on normal highway roads for testing. It doesn’t bit then overcompensates by barely turning the wheel… about ¼ “.

What can be done to add stability to the ’69 Camaro for high speeds?

Are there any good suspension/alignment shops in So Cal that can dial in a car?

Is there anybody in So Cal with scales that can help balance the car and dial in the sway bars?

To start with you need to go to http://www.silverstateclassic.com/ and do a search on the forum.
I believe you'll find that you do not want a lot of camber for this type of event. Most run normal factory specs. or close to 0/0/0.
I would also suggest that you start with the factory specs. and see how it handles before you start throwing a lot of offset into the suspension. Much of this could be due to your tires.
Finally what class are you planning to run? Usually not much needs to be done aerodynamically until you get over 150 mph.

Yes, I practically live at that site. The problem with the 69 Camaro is that the Hedman Headers are up against the upper A-Arm bolts. This prohibits any adjustments except toe. The tires are Firestone SZ50s 275/45R17s.

If I can get it to the point where I feel comfortable at speed, I'd like to test the car in the 115 MPH Class. The ultimate goal is the 160 MPH Class.

The Camaro goes very straight but if I'm turning into a long sweep nothing seems to happen, but if I turn the wheel 1/4" more it tends to bite and want to turn hard.
