Z28 Badges

I recently got a black 1995 Z28. It has red z28 badges on it. I was wondering did they ever come from the factory with red badges or did the guy that had it before do this himself, i am thinking about putting black ones back on if so. is it a hard job to remove them? and where can i find z28 badges at?

All Z28 emblems are factory black, SS emblems are red. You can remove them buy using a hair dryer and dental floss/ fishing line to seperate it from the body. Then use some goo gone to remove excess residue left on the body. You can repaint the emblems, buy new ones from the dealer (but they are over $20 ea), or get stainless steel/ chrome emblems.

you can get replacement emblems through gmpartsdirect.com for much less than 20 a piece. I think they are 6 or 7 a piece there. Either way it would be cheaper just to pull them off and repaint them black, or you could try paint remover and take the red off.

Here's the easy way to take care of it. Order some overlays from Brent any color you want.

http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/vinyl/vinyl.htm

$10.00 standard colors
$16.00 reflective colors
Or You could order a whole overlay and insert fit for $40.

I'd much rather spend my money with Brent than with a dealer.

The overlays won't change the fact that red will show through if the original badges have been painted. He'd be better off to get the new badges at a whopping $10 a piece.

Although I agree that Brent is the coolest and people should order from him. Just that some people think the overlays cover everything up and they don't, the outside edges of the badge, and the 'hash lines' will show through. If you do put an overlay on them, to make it work you'll still have to take the badges off and paint them black of course, which also may ruin them. Then you'd be buying new badges anyway.

I don't have the pricing in front of me but even discounted I'm pretty sure the actual emblems are more than $10 each. GM Parts Direct might list them at $10 (not even sure) but their shipping will be about the same. I'm pretty sure that the final cost for 3 badges is over $50 even discounted.

Also, the SS badges came in black with a red outline and black with a silver outline... depending on car color. The 97SS anniversary editions were white with a hugger orange outline.

Thanks for the kind words too guys!

I paid $11.50 at my local dealer when I bought the new badge after I yanked off the crooked one. Promptly put your overlays on that same day.

when I replaced my red SS badges with silver ones, all 3 of them were something like 36.50 at the dealer.

I put all new badges on my Z shortly after I got it, and I'm positive it was less than $50. It was over four years ago though.
