Wiring Help- Dual Foglight Switches
Wiring Help- Dual Foglight Switches
Ok. Here's what I want to do:
A lil background so I make some sense:
On my 97 Z center console I have my foglight switch and "button that does nothing". when I take the center trim panel off, the foglight switch is connected to the foglight plug (5 wires) and the button that does nothing is connected to the TCS plug (5 wires).
I have 2 foglight switches (no traction ctrl). One is operating my fogs (duh). The other I want to connect to either the TCS plug or somehow splice into it and somehow connect it to the other foglight switch. (As you hopefully know, the TCS plug will not fit into the Foglight Switch, only the foglight plug (which i only have one of)).
The reason I'm doing this is I want to connect my Exterior Neons (2 wires to the transformer) to the other fogswitch so I can use it to turn them on and off.
SO: if you could, please tell me how I can do this- what color wires on the TCS plug are needed for the switch to operate, how should i hook it up, where do I run the neon wires (hot&gnd), etc.
Thanks a lot,
Jay

IMO the best thing you could do is get your extra foglamp switch and get another pigtail for the back of it off a donor car.
Then you could pick and choose the couple wires you would use off the ASR harness and abandon the rest.
I would think the only 2 wires you could use from the ASR harness are the +&- wires for the switch backlighting. On the foglamp switch these are the smallest gauge wires going into the back. Then you just figure which 2 connectors are switched and use them in the positive circuit of your accessory. There is one connector on the foglamp harness (green wire) that kills the power to the switch when the high beams are on... you don't want this for accessories, so this wire must be grounded permanantly down around the radio.
This should work just fine for what you are planning.
For a custom touch, and to keep from confusing the switches, you could take out the 'Camaro' badge and move it to the center 2 plug holes. This would allow a wide separation between the switches so you couldn't push the wrong one. Or you could just get 2 more switches and have 2 extra up there for future projects.
Good luck
Dave
Btw: On my site I have instructions for modding the foglamp wiring. The mod allows the foglamps to run even if the high beams are on.
