Wiring in Fogs

I'm going to install my new Hella FF75s. I want to reuse the factory switch but not the factory wiring harness. Since these are more powerful I don't want them to be limited by the stock wiring. Also on the install directions it has me running a green wire from the relay pin 87 to the high beam wire. I don't want these to turn off when the highbeams are on. Is there a way I can bypass this? Should I connect it to the parking lights so its switched? How would I do that, where is the wire for it?

Also if anyone has mounted the hellas and has a how-to I would appreciate it, thanks.

Those instructions were for if you didnt already have foglights installed, that way all you needed was the highbeam switch to turn them on. If you want to replace the wiring, you are going to have to go to the nearest breaker box, and use thicker wire, and rewire the swich. Why not try the factory wiring, i think its 16 ga, should work just fine.

Factory wiring should work fine.I have had 3 or 4 different kind on mine up to 55 watts with now problems. All I did was cut off the the factory ends and hook the new ones to the harness and your done.I also did the mod to keep them on with the high beams.

Thanks Bud. What's weird is that you have to run one wire to a switched 12v and then another for the highbeams. So I was thinking maybe I would just run two wires to a switched 12volt and then it should work. The reason I didn't want to reuse the stock wiring is that the hellas have a higher gauge of wire. I'm sure the stock stuff might be fine, but it may not give enough juice.

After looking at the schematic, I see that my previous answer was not correct. Activating the hi beams deactivates the stock relay that controls the driving lights.
The yellow wire coming from the switch is the power to the stock relay. Cut that wire (removing the stock relay from the system) and use it to close the Hella relay (not for lamp power, just for the relay) and the driving lights will work whenever the parking lamps are on.

I checked the two links on Brent's site and both of them are no good.I do remember it involved cutting the green and white wire coming out of the bottom of the fuse box under the hood and grounding it.If I remember correctlly all you do is to cut the wire and extend it with a 6 to 8 inch piece of wire and them find a good ground and your done. The part of the wire you ground is the on coming from the harness into the box,not the piece coming out of the box.

Let me make sure I got this correct.

There is a yellow wire comming from the dash mounted stock factory fog light switch. I should cut that, and connect it to the green Hella wire that was supposed to be connected to the high beams.

Are you using the relay that is supplied with the Hellas? If you are, it has 4 connections marked 30, 85, 86, and 87. 30 is 12v in for the lamps, 85 is ground, 86 is power from the switch and 87 is power out to the lamps. Cut the yellow wire on the foglight switch and connect to 86. This will bypass the stock relay. Connect 85 to chassis ground. Connect 30 to the terminal in the red box behind the battery and connect the foglights to 87.
When you cut the yellow wire, cut it in a place where you can put spade connectors on both ends so if you want to go back to stock it will be easy to do.

Cool thanks Bud. I'm using the hella relay so this should work out for me. How to I use the existing stock switch instead of the hella one? I already know what to do with the yellow wire, but what about the others? Thanks

Leave the others the way they are. All you are doing is wiring the Hella relay in place of the stock relay. That's what you are doing with the yellow wire.
