will rubbing alcohol hurt your paint?

I got my car back form the body shop(its not completely done yet), but they put in a new windshield and there was alot of tape on the roof of the car where they had taped the windshield in place.... well I pulled off the tape and now in the places where the tape was the paint looks kinda wierd. Im hoping its just residue(sp?) from the glue on the tape!! anyways, my pops told me to get some rubbing alcohol and it should come right off... I wanna know if this will do anything to my paint. Thanks

no rubbing alcohol will not harm your paint any. did they repaint your car before they put in the windshield?? cause the paint not have been totally dried and the tape may have left marks in the clear.

rubbing alcohol will work fine - just remember not to apply internally (don't drink it)

No, I do need to repaint the front of my car(fenders, hood, front bumpercover) since all those parts are being replaced... but the roof of my car as well as the rest of it is still fine. Thanks

what kind of tape did they use? They should have tape that leaves no residue, at least my body shop has it.

I dont know... the tape around the windshield(not touching the paint on the car) was just masking tape... but the tape that they had vertically on the windshield that ran all the way up to the roof was a neon green tape and it was hard as hell to pull off. I dont know what kind it was though.

You can also get something called "Goo Gone" or similar from an autoparts store. Might work a little better/quicker than rubbing alcohol.

Oh Yeah, that lime green tape that they used is also masking tape. it is something that has been out for a couple years. it freakin sucks. it was made to bend and tear better than the brown masking tape. but it is worthless..
