cool write up.. I'll have to try that next time I see some cheap tail lights!
I searched google last night, and found a lot of PT cruiser info, but none on this particular mod. The only taillight or brake light mod I could find, were the gts grill things. One guy had his painted to match his PT.
I'll put up a how to page after a while. I'm sure the spraypainting will make them red, it may look good, it may not. Only one way to find out. But there was no painting or anything like that involved in mine. My original idea was to make an entire red lens with no dividing bars in it. I was going to use the lens off a Chrysler Sebring, and trim it to fit the Camaro housing... and make the whole thing light up when you hit the brakes. But I ran out of time and made the ones I did.
ahh..so the mystery continues....
I was kind of wondering how yours turned out as light as that, but since its not even the same procedure, I know now...
But painting them will turn out just as good as yours..I just don't have any pics right now to prove it as my car is in the process of reconstructive surgery...
And yes, I did copy some parts of the headlight mod..it makes it turn out a lot better than just spraying the outside..
Just a few things to think about if you decide you want to paint the outside rather than taking the housing all apart and every...
1) You can't power wash the housing...the pressure will leave visual marks and you'll end up having to repaint them over. (Meaning no drive thru car washes.)
2) You can easily see defects in your painting...
3) Don't wash them with soap..It hazes the appearence..Just go over them with the no spot rinse and that should shine them up nicely.
4) Don't dry them off yourself. Will leave little scracth marks on them. Go out for a little 90 mph blast and they should be fine.
Note: all of these can be avoided provided you paint the inside rather than the outside of the lens and sending me $20... Im me at fourthgen350 on aol for mailing address...... I need to get my car finished!
And Whistler..Once you get them to light up all at once it will look sweet...trust me
And if anyone wants to see a pic of it done on a pt, Im me at fourthgen350 on aol because I do have pics of this mod done to them just no place to host them.

Good write up. I did the headlight mod a while ago. I just tinted the taillights on the outside, but it might be a cool idea to do the insides. I also have all the lens lighting when the brakes are on and have sequential turns.
WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS MOD
I just ruined a pair of taillights last night. They warped, and even at the point when they warped, the housings were no-where NEAR hot enough to get them seperated...

Ahh that sucks to hear man...
So everyone be careful!!
I have yet to do a set on the inside of a camaro lights (I did my first set on the outside) so I dont know if its really possible to seperate them, but this write has worked on a set of pt housing so I wouldn't think it be that much different...
Just an idea, but what about trying a hot air gun? You could probaly do small sections at a time till its completly off so that you don't warp them or if they start you can stop heating them up and try a different route.
You might also want to just wait till Whistler posts his write-up so you don't screw some up expermenting.

Just a thought...
It'd probally be easier to experment on some side marker lights or 3rd brake light. Should be made from the same type of plastic and also the same glue used.
I'm still needing to do mine so I'll mess around with them and see if I can get them to come apart.

The Pt lights may be made to seperate like the Impala lights. It make take some more work to seperate the Camaro lights. It may even need to have some glue or melt point cut. I haven't check on an old set yet.
Because the taillight glue all needs to be hot at the same time, so you can separate the lens. Otherwise only a little bit at a time will be soft enought to separate. The trick to separating lenses is to get the part hot enough to melt glue, but not the plastic. Electric ovens work the best.
