Wheels - Polished or Graphite?
Wheels - Polished or Graphite?
I am trying to decide wether to keep my Eagle 077's polished, or if I should paint them graphite. This is for a Black '94 Camaro.
They are 18" wheels. My color scheme is all dark if that matters - mainly black and dark gray. I'm just having a hard time deciding if I want a little flash, or if I want the dark and mean look.
Help a brutha out.
And BTW - these are just my holdover wheels until I get some graphite Z06's - but I don't want to ruin then by sanding them and painting them if I am the only thinking it will look good...regardless of who you are - other peoples opinions do affect you.

If you mean Graphite, like the Dark Grey, then I would suggest against it...because no matter what, your wheel will just look like a dirty Silver Painted wheel. But if you mean an actual Black wheel..then I say go for it, I love Black wheels.

I voted for polished, but the best way to solve your dilemma is to really look at the car's outfit vs. the wheel textures that you are considering, and making a final decision yourself. Everyone will have their own opinion, but you have to first like the wheel or appearance mod, and you will be the one living with it and/or hating it. So it will be a lot better that you pick something that you like or will hate the least.
BTW if you're just using these as a standby while waiting for your "real" rims, then why bother with the expense, unless you're planning on sporting two sets. That is a cool idea, backbreaking maybe, but cool if you can do it.

A quick reminder, or something to see for the newer guys... James 97Z's wheels... His post got some pretty good comments.
I am not being an advocate really for one or the other - just most everyone knows what polished 077's look like...
I really don't have an opinion on those wheels (the link), except that it does give that car a mean look.
I like the graphite and even painted grey textures. I remember when I had my painted set that they would look really good on the car in daylight, but at night, when sometimes you would wish for a little shine, my painted wheels kind of left me wanting for a bit of shine.
The opposite thing I had against a chrome texture for me was that it was too much shine for my car's color. It didn't necessarily clash, but the chrome's shine distracted a bit too much from focusing on the body color in my case. I went with a two textured polish that gave me a good metallic shine without being mirrorish or overly shiny, as well as rendering a "somewhat matted" texture on the wheel face, which in fact supported my car's color the way I intended it to match. It was a tough balancing act, but (I think) it paid off being that I took my time in deciding what I wanted.
Good luck with whatever you decide with.

Well - just an update...
I got the tires and wheels put on the car yesterday.
It is the Eagle 077's, 18x8 with a 245/40/ZR18 Kumho Ecsta MX's...and the wheels are graphite.
I absolutely love it - I am so very glad I went with it. It looks very nice IMO, so that's all that REALLY matters.
(And Paul - before you flip out - I did lower the car (Eibach Pro-Kit), so I took care of some of the wheel gap).
I will start a new thread and post some pics as soon as I can.
I don't have access to a digital camera, and mine is out the window, so it will be a few days (probably this time next week).
I know there will be times I want the polished, and some bling, but oh well - gotta sacrifice something. I let my buddy borrow these wheels for his orange T/A, and they were polished then of couse - and I remember seeing his car rolling at nite...in certain lighting situations - ya, that's what'll make me miss the polished. But - now I only have to worry about water spots and not dulling wheels - that I can clean with a sponge and some soap - not Mothers and a polishing pad.
I'll get some pics though asap.
