Wheels - Give Input Please

Hey,

I'm about to replace my tires, the tread is ridiculously low. I'm looking to get all new wheels (chrome) along with new tires (presumably, low profile of some sort). I'm looking to basically get the maximum wheel size (same width is fine, 8.5 I believe on a 99 Camaro V6), without them rubbing, and without having to do any body work to make them fit.

I want to jus be able to unbolt the current tires, and slap on 4 new ones (tires and wheels). Any suggestions on size, brand, style for the tires and / or wheels?

Any links to sites you recommend or manufacturer sites would be greatly appreciated.

On a related note, the 99 Camaro V6 tires from the factory are 8.5 (225mm?) by 17, right?

Let Me Know,
Thanks,
Kevin

The 99 v6 is a 16 inch dont know about the width 8.5 seems wide though. I would say if you are going to be getting new rims and new tires at the same time it doesnt matter if you up it a bit and get 17s. Its not like your just getting rims and trading over the old tires so it wont matter if you go bigger. Looks better too.

Oops, I meant 16x8.5 - looking to possibly get 18"s or 19"s if at all possible. Any ideas if these would rub at all?

What brands for wheels and tires would you guys recommend? Any specific models you can link me to?

A lot of people on this site go with Corvette rims. I did. And 20 inch rims have been fit you just have to do the backspacing and all that. The Zo6 rims have been fit and they are 18sx 11 I think? So you should be able to get a good sized rim in there.

Looking for something a little above 17", hopefully 18" and possibly 19". Something fairly flashy, but not ridiculous.

If you want 18's, I would put 18x9.5 all the way around with 285/35/18 tires. Should fit great, and your speedometer will never know the difference either. This is a perfect +2 wheel/tire upgrade size. I wouldn't do 19's, but that's just me.

18x9.5 would be great. 285mm tires would fit fine without rubbing at all? What's the 35 in that series of #s?

Any specific brands / wheels you recommend that are 18x9.5. The speedomter would still work fine? How so?

So basically, I'll be able to buy 4 wheels / tires, slap them on (285/35/18s), they'll bolt right on with no modifications, and will have no rubbing?

Also, what's the bolt pattern for a 99 Camaro 3.8L?

The 35 is the tires aspect ratio, or rather, the sidewalls height in proportion to the width of the tire. IE. In this case, the tires sidewall height would be 285mm x .35 = 99.75mm = 3.9"

By using the 285/35/18 tires, the diameter of the tire would be the same as your stock tires.

5 x 4.75

Well, it is and it isn't that simple. If you get wheels with the correct backspacing then yes, they should bolt on with no mods, and no rubbing. I would consult whoever you buy wheels from and get their recommendation for the proper backspacing and offset for your car. I believe you would want a 7.5" backspacing to make that combo work with no problems.

How would 18x9 Cobra R wheels work? They're on fasttoys.net - Item Number: PW028018C

Any other sites I should check out? I'm basically a complete car idiot, so I'd prefer to buy a tire / wheel combo package from some place.

As far as the offset, is this hard to change? If I took my car into any basic shop (Midas for example), would they be able to work things out, and get everything how it needs to be?

Any other factors to take into consideration?

Any specific styles that you guys think look good on the newer Camaro body? Any pics of your cars, or cars you've seen with non-factory wheels?

Hit the link and see the Mille Migalia MM11 and then click to see the 6th choice to look at the Moda R6. Sweet wheels reasonably priced. Sumitomo HTR Z II 285/35/18 sweet tire reasonably priced. Mustang Wheels on an Fbod are ghey.

the cobra rims have a different bolt pattern, however they do have that style for our cars. the ford bolt pattern is, I think, 5x100mm and ours is 5x114mm. i think thats right. whatever, there arent too many wheels that fit our cars. the factory replacement rims and cragar are the two biggest, and volk has a 18x9.5 that can be notched. wouldnt suggest notching rims for higher powered cars though.
