wheel size compared to suspension drop

O.k. I have a 79 z28, I'm wanting to drop it two inches in the front and a inch in the rear. I'll be doing this with hotckhis springs. Right now I have 225/70R15 tires and 15 inch wheels. I know with that type of drop i can't run 17's in front. So I was thinking about going 16's all around. Anyway what's probably the biggest sidewall tire I could go with on 16 in ch wheels with this much of a drop?? thanks

Having never seen the room in the wheel wells of 2nd gen cars, this is an educated guess, but I'll do my best...

If there is as much extra room in the wheel wells of a 2nd gen like there is on the 3rd & 4th gens, then you should be able to fit a tire with the same hieght. Being your current size is 225/70-15, and you want 16 inch rims, then you would want 225/65-16 to stay with the same height.

Is 225/70-15 a stock size tire on a 2nd gen?

Well I dunno if that is the sock wheel size or not ...but I do know that in the front my tires a damn close to the outer lips of my wheelhouse's. But I fiqured with a 2inch drop in front I have to go like down to 45 or 50 on the sidewalls with 16inch wheels, instead of the current 70 I'm running on the stock 15inch wheel. I dunno???
There's not much room in the wheelhouse's

Ok, well your current tires have a height of 27.4 inches. I dunno what the stock height of tires on a 2nd gen is, but on a 4th gen it's 25.6"

Going down to that size will give you the extra room you need. And if you get 16x8 rims, then you can go with a 245/50-16 tire.
