What to paint rear axle with?

Buying a used one and I want to paint it before it goes in. What's the best way to clean it up without a sandblaster? Wire brush or something? Also is there any particular paint you guys use or will just any ole spray paint work for me? I plan to give it a good primer and then either go gloss black or gloss red(to match suspension pieces I'm considering). Any ideas, also any pic's of yours you've painted? Thanks

I'd wire wheel it then use some POR-15.

How well does that stuff work? I checked out the website and it looks pretty interesting. What other things do you guys use it on? I'd rather buy more than I need than end up running out before I'm done. But I don't want it to go to waste. My engine bay looks pretty good already so I don't need it there. Do you guys use it to protect the entire underbody or anything? I thought that might be an idea, mine looks like crap lol.

What a lot of guys do for the rear axles, suspension and the whole bottom of the car especially if they're really rusty is put two coats of the silver and then one coat of the black. The silver is air tight and that's what stops the rust, not the black. I like to use Master Series and I've had good luck with it on a Firebird that I did years ago. I think their site is http://www.nomorerust.com still. Hope this helps.
