Personally, I'd say start with the 9006 upgrade first. Why spend ten times as much money when you can quickly upgrade your stock lights to SilverStars; who knows maybe that's all you need. I upgraded my lowbeams to Sylvania SilverStars and my headlights are vastly brighter than they used to be.

Haha, if you're going to spend $400 just to upgrade the headlights, spend $50 more and get the DG Motorsports Carbon Fiber Grill, the foglights are brighter than the stock brights.

Just an FYI... Silverstars are junk. The colortemp makes them appear brighter than stock, but any coated bulb should be 80w-100w anything less may appear brighter than stock, but will decrease visibility.

Avoid:

- Sylvania Cool Blue
- Eurodezigns
- Silverstars
- APC
- Streetglow

Bulbs I recommend (HID Look):

- Showoff Krypton 4300k 80w(actual wattage)
- Nokya 4300k 80w (actual wattage)
- Nokya Stage II
- FX 5000k 100w (actual wattage)

Bulbs I recommend (Best illumination):

- Ichibahn 100w (actual wattage)
- Ichibahn 130w (actual wattage)

For best results, ALWAYS upgrade to a heavy duty headlight harness.

I agree with Paul.

Silverstars are crap (regardless of what they say in the Lounge).

I was one of the first with the Stage II Nokyas here (at least I'd like to think so ) ...they're 10x better than Silverstars as well as less expensive. A little too much color for me...so I settled with the 5000k Showoffs.

I was going to do the FF75 swap - but chickened out. I have 2 pairs of FF75's at home in the boxes (one set was mounted, the other never left the box) If anyone wants them, send me a PM.

Ok, Im so goddamn confused here... even though i really shouldnt be.... Just some questions - it would be awesome if someone could answer them. Cuz im reading all these posts and it seems like everyone is saying stuff that contradicts other stuff.
Or maybe im just losing my mind.

~Ok so apparently you could just put new bulbs in the stock camaro lights? Good bulb recommendations were given by pu12, and these fit in the stock camaro lights. As in, you open the light up, take out the old bulb, put in the new one?

~Wtf is HID? I know its like, the brighter, bluish/whiting Audi/Bimmer lights, but what does HID stand for?

~I was looking at the Hella FF75 lights. These come with bulbs? Or I would need to buy 2 low beams, 2 high beams, then buy whatever bulbs I see fit? Ive seen a few install instructions, they dont look that hard.

~Why does HID only come in low beams? Or are they just too bright for high beams?

~Does wattage determine the brightness or does 5000k or 4300k and the like determine it?

~Pu12, you currently have HID in now with your FF75s? If you do, then why upgrade to the circular 90mms? Do they provide a greater brightness or something?

Super thanks in advance. Ive been trying to figure this out for a couple of days visa vi searching, but it would be cool to have definate answers to my questions for once

(disclaimer: please correct me if i'm wrong, i don't want to give out incorrect info, but this is just to the best of my knowledge)

HID stands for High Intensity Discharge lighting. I'm not 100% sure on how they work, but they are many times brighter than halogen (stock) lights. They are a different kind of bulb that don't require a higher voltage, but instead has a ballast that goes between the blub itself and stock wiring harness. There is also an igniter that is usually built into the ballasts. I don't know the technical details on how the bulbs work...but i know they are much brighter. There aren't separate HID high beams because turning the HID bulbs on and off frequently aren't good for the bulbs...it's just better if they stay on for long periods of time. They also take a few mins to "warm up". So for BMWs and most other HID equiped cars, they usually have halogen high beams (separate light) or bixenon which a shield that is electonically controlled located within the HID projector housing that sorta aims the light higher just like highs beams would look.

As for the 4300K - 8000K temps you always see...those numbers DO NOT determine how bright the light bulbs are, that number just states the color temp. The higher the temp, the more blueish / violet the color looks. In fact, i've read that as the color temps of HID bulbs increase you loose some of the brightness.

http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/hl-hid-bulbs.htm check out that webpage to read about the details.

The brightness of a light bulb is measure by lumens. I don't know what halogens rate at...but HID lights are around 3000 lumens.

I believe to put new bulbs in the stock housings...you either 1) have to replace the unit with a non-sealed unit or 2) do some work and take the stock one apart so you can get the stock bulb out and put in a new one.

The Hella FF75 lights are actually driving lights (fog lights with a more focused beam pattern) and they should come with bulbs already installed. I don't know what type tho...H3 or H4?? They would actually replace the square headlight units. From what I've seen, most people end up doing is buying 2 sets of the Hella FF75 lights so both the high beam and lowbeam lights look the same. They would just aim the high beam set higher than the lows.

I myself did the PIAA headlight conversion a few years ago, but have since changed my low beams to the Hella 90mm lights. I hope this helped a little....and if not....oh well
