Went to Eastwood and...

...finally bought a buffing motor. There was a guy (Todd??) who had polished the Borla on his black Camaro a few years ago. Ever since then I have wanted to do the same. Well, roughly 10 days and COUNTLESS hours of time spent, it's done. The y-pipe is coated inside and out w/ CermaKrome and then buffed to get the best shine.

That looks awesome! Looks like chrome in the pic. I hope it stays looking that way for a while. Should start up a business... then again maybe not if it took you 10 days!

Oh man you did a great job! You are the first person I have seen with an exhaust exactly like mine. Even did the DS.

Nice.

The man! Sorry I forgot your sn, but I remembered your work. I know that your car is not a daily driver, but how is the polish work holding up on the exhaust? What do you use to clean/polish? I used MEK followed by Wenol and it seemed to work very well...I'm just curious what you're using? What did you do to the mild steel flanges that hold the plates? I ended up powder coating both flanges in a zinc primer and high gloss black so I'm hoping it will hold up to the heat. So how long did it take you from start to finish to complete the exhaust?
I'll have to check out your site again to find my next "project".

Only a loser would have thumb muscles bigger than my biceps! Yes, my basement is all messed up. There is compound dust everywhere in the basement and under the motor there is easily 3/4" of solid compound on the floor.

Re: Went to Eastwood and...

I just wipe mine down every so often, then annually I buff the whole thing with white rouge. Stainless holds up almost perfect. I did nothing to my metal flanges, they hold up fine until I re hit everything once a year. I think powder coating them is the best way to go like you did.

Again you did a great job!

When I get asked to polish parts I would never do it as a business, it is long and hard...keeping it as a hobby is rewarding and fun. The mess is something else.

I guess buffing it once a year wouldn't be too bad...I'll worry about it in 12 months. I'm surprised that the flanges didn't rust right after you polished them, the flanges on my exhaust rusted w/in a week or two of being new. Are the flanges that you have stainless or mild steel? The flanges that I have are mild FOR SURE, and I still don't know why Borla would make a nice system out of 304SS and then use mild steel on the flanges.

Thanks again for the compliments!

Where did you get your Russel lines? I would like to upgrade to braided lines as well, and was thinking about getting Russel. Did you get a full set of 98+ brake lines or did you get 93-97 rears and 98+ fronts? Thanks.

They are not stainless, that is a joke for them not to be. At the end of the year it show a little rust.

I bought the lines from Summit. It's a 5 hose kit and the pn is 692280. You want the 98+ kit W/O traction control.

What do you do with the 5th line? Is it unused?
