Look at the sellers name. Remind you of anyone familiar from the board?

But yeah, very uncool dude. Brent, maybe you should put up a guide on how to make them on your Apperance Page

Brent does have one.. you just have to look for it...either way, if people want to make their own, thats fine.. but if they want to buy it off someone else because they lack the equipment, time or pactence then that should be fine too.

Oh yeah it was bound to happen, he even is advertising it on the F/S forum from time to time. It really annoys me as I wanted to keep this free, if not I could have done the same thing and sold them, but oh well live and learn. I will remember this in the future as I had another few ideas to share but also wanted them to be free. As I can see though that would not happen either so I am done with it. If someone does not have the equipment I will be more than happy if you send me your design to print it for only the cost of a sheet of photo paper and postage and ink which would never exceed 5.00 in the US I am sure, probably cheaper. This was never suppose to be about profit but there will be a day one of these guys will want something I have and I will remember when they inquire about it.

kinda off the topic, but I've been looking to get some made for my 97 Camaro. Can anyone help me with it? please email me if you can. I'm not sure what design I'd like on it though.

I know there have been a few people doing this. In one hand, I think that if someone would rather pay to have them made if they dont have a good printer etc, that should be ok. But at the same time, the money HE makes off of that auction I feel should be split up to all those that brought that idea to this board, and maybe even the person that came up with this idea in the beginning (the guy that owned the truck?)

I dunno. I agree that it sucks that some guys stumbled across this great tutorial (free) on how to make your own gauge overlays (free) and brought it to this board to tell all the members on how to make your own custom gauge overlays (for free) and someone saw it and wants to make some money off of it...

I think all you can do is if anyone asks where to get gauge overlays, just remind them that they can make their own for virtually nothing...

Cool

Well, I must say that it sucks cause I'm pretty sure he got it from this site...

But, in retrospect, it's a way for some people to get them. I dont have a printer, so this would be an option for myself if I didn't want to design them on my own

I look at it as another good reason to be on this board. Viper worked very hard to make this aware to us, an how to do it, so we can do it for free. I applaud him for that !

If people ask about buying overlays, I'm going to refer them to the DIY threads. Like I said, it's just an advantage to being on this board. I'm sure somewhere down the road, 2 guys are gonna meet at a car show and one is gonna ask about the DIY guages, then get shocked when he finds out they are virtually free

Thumbs down

Yep "Teal" seems to still be around. He also seems to have a few new user names and keeps asking for the length and width of the overlays. At least I assume it's him.He has like 2 posts and both are asking about sizes on the overlays. Some people just make me

Cool

I saw a link a while back about making these and lost it. Could someone post or send me a link to a how to page? I do think it sucks that this guy is making money off of it but I can also see how people would rather someone else do it. Do I have to have some special software? And what kind of paper is this? What about the Gauge overlays?

Thanks,
Matt

Well, I agree w/ both sides here. But, if he wants to make them, and sell them, that should be fine. He isn't forcing people to buy them.

I know who is selling them, and if people want to buy them, let them. They are good quality pieces. And I understand about people getting upset on here, b/c they started out being free. But some people don't have the printers, knowledge, ect. and would rather buy them already made.

If you come up w/ something, that you don't want anyone else to copy, either patent it, or don't post it on the WWW.

You all should have known this was going to get out!! There are too many people that visit this BB.

Like I said, I understand both sides, but give this guy a break.

Edit: This is a nice guy, he even sent me a free shifter overlay So don't give him such a hard time

Cool

I think if he wants to try and make money off this then that is his choice. If people don't think they are worth it, they won't buy them. Not everybody has the ability or may even want to make these on their own even though they are capable. Heck, I know some mechanics that pay to have their oil changed! LOL! Same difference

I personally like the way I've seen some on the board do it... they have stated they can be made for FREE but if people don't want to make them or can't, they'll make them up for the person for a small fee. I really see nothing wrong with that and it gives everyone a chance who wants these a chance to get them even when they don't have the time or inclination to figure out how to do it on their own. I think ReznorZ28 was offering to make these for people but at the same time provided a link to my page which has info on how to make them on their own (or maybe it wasn't Reznor? Can't remember. LOL) and that's cool in my book as it gives everyone a chance to get them.

Heck, if I were to want some, I'd happily PAY somebody to do it for me. I'm very busy, don't have a great printer, and don't have the time to sit down and figure everything out. That is well worth $10 or $20 to me. Just my take on it
