umm curious...clear headlight covers??
umm curious...clear headlight covers??
I have put custom headlights on my car (donated by streetglow, the new fog light/head light series) and I don't want them to get busted. Does anyone know if they make a clear headlight cover? I know they come in dark, but clear?
Yeah, they do come in clear. I just got a set of Wades clear headlight covers from Jeg's. From what I found researching the board Wade makes a pretty good product and they were the cheapest that I found on the 'net...$39.98 to my door from Jeg's.
I haven't gotten them installed yet, though. It says to put them on in temps above 65* so everything adheres well and the high temp here today is supposed to be 18*

Yes, GTS used to make a clear set, and now Jegs carries another brand... Autoventshade (AVS) also sells the clear ones for around $30

Lets see some pictures of your custom setup... what kinda wattage/bulbs does it run ?
Why would they combine foglight with headlights ?
What good will foglights do, mounted up there ?

no batteries in the digi...but the info
55 watt bulbs...one set has two lights built into one (almost the exact same size housing as one stock Z28 light. high beam and low beam I think.
The fog lights are completely different. They are a single light setup which I put in the stock fog light place. pretty easy to.
I just did a hard wire for the connections. The lights are a hyperwhite bulb (i think). I'm going to try the 30 amp trick that was talked about in another thread and put some H5 bulbs in. They are H3 bulbs now, in all the housings. These lights are better then our stock lights by far. I'll see if I can take some pictures and see.
I also didn't have to drill any new holes, or cut off any connectors, etc. So you can bolt the stock setup BACK on.
Any other questions?

Did you get the:
SG508CH: Euro Driving Lights
https://www.streetglow.com/site/images/sg508ch.gif
2.75" (FB) x 3.375" (BL)
If so, those look outstanding, but I wouldn't settle for 55w.

Jegs is by far the cheapest Ive found so far too....Im looking for a set of Pro beams ( jegs doesn't sell them unfortunatly) but in my travels I found several sites that sell the regular covers and jegs was the cheapest so far..almost by half in some cases.
actually I got the SG797CH so I guess it does have a fog light built in.
SG797CH: Fog-Driving-Parking Lights
2.625" (FB) x 5.75" (BL)
The box is labelled "Features H3-55 watt Xenon-white HID bulbs". And not to mention, they was a gift (experiment) along with the fog lights.
And I just grabbed the box to find out it said SG508CH. and those are the ones I put where my fog lights go. I did this because of the sizes (797CH was more headlights sized, 508CH was more foglight sized). I'm going to get a higher wattage to each and put the H5 bulb in. The SG508CH box is labelled the same "Features H3-55 watt Xenon-white HID bulbs".
I wonder how 2 fog lights and 2 head lights with H5 bulbs will look with these housings? The appearance of my headlights has already got people talking so I'm almost satisfied. After the 30 amp relay is connected and the H5's come in, I'll see how soon it will be before I get pulled over

So you are saying that the 797's are basically the same shape and size as the stock rectangular units correct ?
and the 508's are not as wide or high in comparison ?
because looking at this page, it looks as thought the 508's are taller in comparison:
https://www.streetglow.com/site/auto12.htm
are the 508's smaller than the stock foglights ?

the 508 is taller than the stock fog light, and not as long. the 797 is almost the same size as the stock headlight unit. Its VERY similar in size. And to add, I used the same screws that hold the factory light in (the screw in the top of the headlight with the plastic clamp it screws into). BUT one 797 is the size of ONE stock headlight so I have the outside housings to replace (already out, just nothing in their place). I'm going to pick up another set of 797 and use those 2 lights as my highs. then use the 797s i have now as my lows. I'm still thinking of ideas on how to do it but in the end, it should look real good either way I do it.
Just a word of warning about the headlight covers from AVS.
I'm assuming the clear will be the same as the smoked,I do not see why not.Well, they are not like the old GTS,they do not fit the same or as well, they do not look as "sleek " ? There is no way a person can bolt them on like the GTS ones,so you will have to make due with the feeble amount of supplied two-sided tape they supply.Sooner or later that tape will fail and there goes a cover, most likely when your on the highway.GTS does still make
covers...the diffrence been they do not cover the black painted part on the side of the headlight opening as they had before. At least a person can fasten them permently if they want. The AVS ones are more "bug-like" as that's the most descriptive way I can describe them without a good picture. The downside of the "new" GTS ones is they used to have thier name on the front in a white decal that could be easily scraped off,but now the GTS name is not just a decal and cannot be removed as easilyor if at all like the previous ones. Hope this helps you to decide.I have good hi-res pics of both but would have to email them to you if you want as I do not have a website as of now.

I have the newer AVS covers, bug like indeed. But its not too bad, got use to them pretty quickly. Its more of a "oh, its not like the other ones" more then it is bad.

I didnt think you were coming across to harsh.....
I use to have GtS covers, but I had a huge problem with them, I could not get them mounted properly at all. After a few times of trying..the little monting things lost their sticking ablility and I tried to rig them to stay on without gluing or bolting them onto the car. A few days later, one of them came flying off the car and a car shortly ran over it, I was only going about 45mph.....
That was a few months ago, I decied to ry once more and use AVS because of the slightly lower price from Summit, $34.99 and free shipping. The moment I opened the box, I liked how they mounted to the car....they have a big plastic peice at the top that kind of slides under the hood. Everything else mounted properly but as I was putting them on I noticed they wrap around the additional black part and rest on top of it. I finished and stood back and looked and thought "uh oh, it looks like a big bug". But I decieded to give them a chance....and I am use to it now. I personally think they mount much more firmly then any of the other ones I have seen.
As for the look, I perfer the GTs ones more, but the AVS aren't that bad either
