Turn Signals Keep Blowing

I'm trying to help my friend out with her 98 Z. The front turn signals keep blowing becaue it's getting wet. I removed the housing and acutally dumped water out of it yesterday, the part of the housing is melted from the bulbs heating up. It has already been replaced once a few months ago because it melted. From the looks of it, it has been in slight accident before she got it and they replaced the front bumper.
The weatherstripping around the headlight dosn't touch the bumper and water leaks onto the top of the housing, it happens most on the drivers side. On the passenger side the foam inner bumper looks like it diverts the water away from the housing a little. I attempted to pull the headlight foward but that just resulted in messing up the aim.
Takling to a few people it seems like it is a fairly common problem but i can't seem to find anyone that has an answer to how to fix it. I was considering drilling holes in the bottom of the turn signal housing but that won't stop the water from hitting the socket. Also considered making something to divert the water but saw no place to mount it besides gluing it to the inside of the bumper.

Any tips or tricks?

Re: Turn Signals Keep Blowing

Had the same issue with my 94Z.

The rear light kept blowing....... due to rain and a crap seal.

what i did is, bought some Latex adheisive, and put it around the light HOUSING when i re-installed it, forming a seal.

Now i know this sounds like a permanent thing, but latex adheisive has alot of give to it, and when i went to remove it it just took another min or two to wiggle it free, then clean the old stuff up.

4.5 years went by and i never blew another bulb, just make sure to use only enough Latex to keep a barrier dont go hog wild with the tube, could cause an issue.

Just a thing outlining line about the tip, no thicker then the width of two DVD depth.

Hard to explain lol, im sure you get the gist.

I'm pretty sure it's getting in through the socket, even though it has a gasket around it. The socket has been replaced before also due to corrosion from the water. The lense itself looks to be water tight. Although, i'll have to test it to be sure. The light that is giving us the problem is the top one, the side one never blows.

Maybe its getting in from the underneith of the car, did you check the hard plastic cover underneath the front clip?

Yeah, the splash sheild is still there, had to take it off in order to get to the lense. The weatherstripping around the headlight isn't sealing against the bumper like I'm pretty sure it should.

Hmmm, well if the latex wont fix it im fresh outta ideas.

Only thing i could suggest outside of the latex, is maybe calling a GM dealer to see if they offer a replacement seal.

Wish i could tell you the part number

I think the seal is ok, it's just that the replacement bumper doesn't fit around the headlights perfectly. I appreciate the ideas though.
