Tips on polishing aluminum rims

anyone have some tips on polishing rims to a mirror shine. I have removed the clear coat on mine and have sanded with 600 grit to smooth out casting flaws. I have shined with mag and aluminum polish, but I am looking for a better shine. Any help or pictures would be helpful.

The best way is to get a grinder and use polishing wheels. all of witch is availible at any hardware store or online. but it takes time and practice. Once you have your rims polished use something like this to seal them or you will need to continue polishing them every month or so. zoop polish

Thanks for the advice; I sanded the red paint on the inside of the rims off, I do not like the color keyed rims. It sounds like it is going to take some time and elbow grease to achieve that mirror shine.

i have always had good luck with these steps!
if they are clear coated i would first strip the clear coat off.

1. start sanding with 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper and keep increasing the sandpaper till you get to about 2500 or 3000 grit!
2. using a buffer/grinder with a wool pad and Mothers mag and aluminum polish.

i used these steps in polishing a set of 16 inch 1992 Camaro rs wheels (the faces) and everybody kept asking me if i had the wheels chrome plated.

hope this helps ya !

Polishing is easy when you have lots of experiance and the proper tools to do the job. To bad I cant post pics but go to my website and look at the pic on the bottom www.geocities.com/polishinginc/ that rim is on my car and 3 others just like it. I still need to paint the unpolished parts. Oh and sorry for the grainyness of that pic, it was taken with my old digi camera.

Dads paint stripper will take the paint off of anything. You can pick it up at walmart.
