I want to get my windows tinted 35% sides and 5% hatch, but the legal limit on the sides in NY is 70% which is kinda ****ty if you ask me... W

hat do you guys think is the lowest i should go without having cop probs? I also have headlight blackouts ona silver and black car.

And the front winshield and t tops? Or don't bother?

Depends on the mood of the trooper/officer/deputy, really. I've got mine tinted down to 11% (metered by State Police machine) and have been pulled over and ticketed for it, and others don't care. If you've got laid back officers you probably won't have a problem, but if you do have someone that likes to nitpick or is new, prepare for tickets. I like my tint so i keep it, it gives them something to ticket me for it i get pulled over for something different, and they are in a good mood. I haven't gotten a tint ticket in a few years (probably because i work for the county sheriff's department) but they were 45 bucks a rip each time.

If you want to play it safe, go with the max legal.

And i don't think it's legal to touch your windshield, you can only go down to where the factory blue tint ends.

Just do what I do.... If you see a cop coming up behind you... roll down your windows. If you get pulled over for something other than your windows, roll them down before the officer gets to your car.

I like to keep them semi-rolled up so they can see if i get pulled over for speeding or something else. I've always been honest, polite and don't give the trooper a hard time, either they'll let me go or give me a tint ticket instead of speeding, passing etc.

Re: Tint in new york

Here is the best thing i have ever heard of. My friend with a black 01 jetta VR6 has limo on the back and practically limo tint on all four side windows (4 door). He got about 3 tickets before going to his optomitrist (sp?) and asking for a letter about how he needs the tint because of his sensitivity to sunlight. Has had to show it about 5 or 6 times since having the letter written and hasnt gotten a ticket since

If you want the dark tint... just do it and go this route. Any optomitrist will write it up for you, they dont care.

Should I match the front strip on the windshield and the ttops w/ the 35% or not bother? Thanks for the responses.
