Post Targa tops pics *copy of lounge post*

Here is my post from the lounge

Yesterday I was witness to I believe the first Targa Top conversion to a 4th Gen F-body. Its is Whistler's car. I have a few pics of the first stage, they were takin with a digital camera at night after it was done. When the pictures of the process are developed I will post them. The day started with the welding of the boxed subframes, then the removal of the T-bar. The car feels more sturdy with the subframes and no T-bar, than it did with just the T. There was no vibration, no windshield shake, no rattles, and no extra wind noise. We drove back with some full throttle blasts, and 80 mph highway driving talking the whole way. Whistler was actually standing at the top of the windshield with the T bar removed and the thing never flexed noticably. The skeptics that said it wouldn't make a difference over the T-tops were dead wrong. The car feels like a vert from the front seats. The car should be finished soon with the carbon fiber top, I'll post pics as soon as its done. Please excuse the electrical tape, it was used to keep the headliner fro flapping until the new one is put in. The red Z pics are of my wreck last week so don't mind them. I'm counting down the days till I chop my T- bar out.

This may sound like a stupid question but...

How do the t-tops go back in? I mean how is the inside edge supported after you lock them back in place. Or did you fabricate something else to replace the t-tops.

Question

This sounds like a great idea, but where do you store the top? That would be the only problem I would have with it - not being able to use the t-top rack.

I would say in the Back seat folded down. The same place people with subs in the trunk put the T's.

Cool

I dont know... but I would maybe concentrate on making a removable t-bar instead of just removing it completely. Im not sure how it would be done, but if you can make it so you can unlatch the t-bar when you take the t-tops off, then you could still easily store them in the hatchback along with the tbar...and that way you wouldnt have to have a targa top custom made.... I dont know Im just rambling out an idea.
btw, nice work on the one you have done, it looks alright

Let me be the first to say that I've seen it and it looks absolutely awesome. I actually haven't seen the finished product (he still had to paint it last time I saw it), but it still looks good. He also did a nice job on the front part of the headliner.

I'm in no real hurry to post the pics, JP... the rest of the car looks like ***. But if we get together, you can take some closeups of the roof, show the carbon fiber panel, and the headliners.

My GFX will be here the beginning of Sept. then I'm spraying the whole car Ferarri Titanium.

It's got a bunch of cool mods I'm dying to show off, just waiting on paint.

Custom made rear floorboards to tuck in dual Flowmasters, H-pipe, and 2.5 over the axles with modified 87-93 LX mustang chrome tailpipes.
Carbon fiber Cowl hood with matching targa top.
Custom chopped and lowered nose with C5 turn signals, side markers and integrated GFX
Shaved antenna, key holes and 3rd brake light
Solid red taillights.
Nitrous purges from the tips of the mirrors.

Thats cool man, my car isn't exactly lookin too good right now either. I pulled it apart waiting for the 98+ bumper, but now the guy said he's having shipping problems. SLP is on about a 6 week wait for Ultra Z hoods. Give me a call whenever you feel like taking pictures of the car.
