From Tan to Black Interior Transformation

I thought I'd post a few pics for before/after changing my disgusting tan/beige/whatever interior to black.

I left some charcoal/gray stuff for contrast but most everything else, including the seats are now black.

Products Used: SEM Classic Coat GM Black (seats), SEM Color Coat Landau Black (everything else), SEM XXX Adhesion Promoter, SEM Sand-Free, SEM Plastic and Leather Prep (1), SEM Color Coat: High-Gloss Clear Coat, Red and Gray scuff pads, tape, soap & water, comet cleanser (a few items).

Seat before:

Seat painted w/out clear-coat:

Seat with clear-coat (finished):

A re-done door panel - material insert installed new black material:

Interior pics with parts back in finished (yes, I still need black carpet and seat-belts!)

And these are few good shots of the finished products installed (sans carpet and belts):

I may add more about how I did the door panel(s) later when I find the images. I basically used a dremel to separate the insert from the door panel, made a pattern using the original, and used adhesive to affix the material to the pressboard and epoxy to re-glue the finished insert to the rest of the door panel.

Overall I think it turned out pretty well and it has me anxious for carpet and belts to match. God I hated that brown, tan, crap. !

I like it but I'd do it without a gloss. I did a similar process to go from gray to black. I would not have put the clear on the seats but to each his own. Also, for the carpet, I suggest using RID dye. Its very cheap and worked excellent without any fading or color coming off. Also I used Duplicolor vinyl and fabric coating on the door panels which are satin instead of glossy so it hides the dust. Here are a few pics of what I did:

It'll be interesting to see how durable the dye is. I wonder if it sticks to the vinyl portions of the seat as well as the leather...?

I always hated that dark tan color, what year are those seats? The light beige leather available most years was fine, but yuck to the tan.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I used a different dye/paint for the plastic and seat material. ColorCoat for plastic and ClassicCoat for the leather/vinyl. So far they are both holding up great.
