Called them today and they called me back. I guess they were on back order. No one bothered to send me an email or anything, but oh well. He said he would ship it out tomorrow. We shall see.......

Im really not pissed or anything, it seems like he is running a side business and probably doesnt have the resources as most big companies. Im just worried about actually getting the damn thing, they are the only company I have found that sells them.

 

IIRC it has nothing to do with the year. in 93-97 and maybe beyond, any V8 car with 2:73 gears could not have a 1st gear selection. we had this discussion in the firebird section on LS1 tech. some guys posted some 93-97 formula's and T/As with 2:73's and no first selection. my 95 with 3:23's has it but none of the 2:73's did. it had something to do with noise levels and not passing the EPA's noise polution requirements or something.

What? Really? If that's true, that's the most interesting bit of information I've heard all year.

Why does your car have 3.23 gears? If you have the original window sticker, does it say you have "Performance Axle Ratio" as an option? On Camaros it was RPO GU5. If that's really the reason the occasional automatic Camaro (and Firebird--which I do not know birds very well) has 1st gear as a selectable option, then I just learned something new.

 

I have the GU5 RPO code on my 96. I have the 1st gear option. I have also been led to believe that the 2.73's didn't get the 1st gear option on the console.

As luck (fate?) would have it, I went and checked out a Z28 at a local dealership, and sure enough it had the 1st gear selectable. I got a copy of the window sticker, and yep! "Performance Axle $250.00" so this is confirmed!

Never knew this. Thanks for letting me know EnFuegoZ28 and 1995blackttopta. It'll be something to add to my website for sure.

 

I love it! Its def a huge upgrade from the cavalier style stock one.

I installed the white face shift plate overlay, I'll post pics soon. The only problem I have with it is you can no longer see the gear indicator, but thats not bothering me at all.

I have a 95 z28 /w performance axle and I have first gear selectable, but it won't go into 1st gear manually, always has been like this since I have bought it with 40,000 miles .

 

Take your console off and bend the notch that holds the shifter from dropping down into first. I dunno why Chevy did this but I've done it on about 10 Camaros and it works like a champ.

Easy mod...20 minutes.
