T-Top Shatters for no apparent reason

So get this.. Im driving down a smooth road this morning, no sun, 70F, no bumps, doing about 35mph, then suddenly out of nowhere I hear a loud bang and glass is falling on me.

My Drivers side T-Top shattered/exploded for really no reason that I can see.

I wasnt behind anybody, wasnt going fast, hitting bumps, accellerating or decellerating. strange!

Anybody ever experience anything like this before? Maybe it was a meteor?

It was probably chupacabra.

I can't tell by your signature, but I'm assuming you have a 4th gen, correct? I haven't heard of anyone shattering a t-top while it is attached to the roof, besides them not being attached properly, and flying off of the car, or getting in a wreck. Maybe chassis flex? Do you have subfame connectors?

it's a 1996. As far as I can tell it was on properly, no hard latching or anything like that. The frame was still in I didnt mess with it until I got home.

I wonder if something fell and hit it? I've heard of real hot days cracking Windshields but never tempered glass unless you really bend it then it will crack.

No subframe connectors but I still have the stock 10 bolt and no slicks.. just Nitto 315dr's and I never even abuse them.. I usually do 30+mph runs since I dont want to stress the rear end too much.. never heat them up much or launch hard.

5-10 minutes prior to this I did pass some slow cars but the road was damp and I was spinning at only 1/2 throttle and 3000rpm, that was it all morning. 10 mins later... BOOM SHATTER

Sure is strange!

That's bizarre.

Possibly there was some twisting and the pressure overcame the glass.........just speculating here.....

That's what i was thinking, look at his sig. he's go 570rwhp and i also didn't see subframe connectors on the list. Maybe he was moderately getting on it around a curvy road and it got just enough frame twist to put pressure on the t-top and shatter it. damn physics.

I'd be pissed if that happened to me. I love nothing more than driving hard through some nice corners.
