t-top conversion-a few questions

I'm about to start a t-top conversion on my trans am and I was curious if anyone who has done has any last second advice for me. Also when I cut the back of my roof, should I cut in the indention on the roof, or cut 1/4 inch in front of it?thanks for any help.

Question

Ok guys I'm new to this body-work stuff. I want to put T-tops on my 2000 Firebird. I couldn't find any other threads except this one. I need to know where to find parts, and any help I can get to do this. Is it worth chancing a mess up? or is there someone out there that does it professionaly?

Like I said, all the help I can get! Thanx guys.

PS - How much structure support will I loose if I cut up my roof? Will it screw up my handling?

I tried a search for t-tops, but since they updated this message board I can't find anything. Also, should I cut a 1/4 inch behind the windshield also?

nah, just cut a bit in front of the channel in the back, then you just pry the bitch up & off. you dont cut by the windshield, it'll just pull out from under the trim with a little (HA!) coaxing. Im gonna see if I still have the links somewhere for this......

i did it all in a single day. granted, i still havent gotten around to re-doin the paint job, so it looks so-so with the tops off, but it looks fine with the tops on. (except for the part on my sail panel where the dremel got away from me and put a 7" scratch on the roof )

tHIS one my friend's is a piece of cake...I also debated for a long time whether to do this. I e-mailed Slocody a couple of times and others for tips...It was easier than expected...you just cant be scared! Once you peel that roof you see how easy itsgoing to be......DO IT!!! Now my T-tops are always off. Gotta enjoy them before winter comes.

I'd like to have t-tops, but I don't think I could make myself do that to my car. I don't think I have the fiberglass/bondo/painting skills to make it look like it should. Also, take a look at the pictures called hugegap...with my luck, that would happen to me, except worse. It just seems that if you cut a little too close, you're going to have serious problems. I guess he got his to fit right by adjusting the tops?
