Switch Mounting

I want to mount 2 rocker switches in my ashtray.
I need suggestions on how to make the housings that the switches will clip into. Last time I got a plastic front license plate and cut it/ground it to size, but it didn't look very professional up close.
How did yall mount yours (for mounting in the ashtray only, not your super-custom-glove-compartment-10-switches mod)
Thanks,
Jay

I used a piece of .125 (1/8") Aluminum sheet. Cut it to size, put the holes into it, and polished it up. There's pics of it on my webpage.

I'd like to know how people make plates that match the interior. I think there is some paint you can use on any surface to simulate vehicle interior?
