Surface Prep
Surface Prep
Long story short is i need to switch my drivers side door with a new one, but i really want to do the surface prep myself and then have someone spray it for me. Any tips, or sanding grit order would be greatly appreciated, as i really have no idea about what i am doing. I know I won't be able to do it perfectly, but the paint on the rest of the car isn't perfect so i won't mind too much. Thanks alot.
Re: Surface Prep
Easiest way to do that is look for a door the same color as your own car. Then take it and have it professional buffed if it sticks out like a sore thumb. Otherwise, You'd have to switch doors then wetsand off the color with 40 or 80 grit. Then spray primer and move from 300 grit or so to 2000 grit with wetsanding. Also, you'll have to mask off the rest of the car to aviod overspray. Then take it in to whoever is spraying the paint layer and let them finish. It would be alot easier to just hang the door and let the professionals prime and paint it.
Re: Surface Prep
Thanks for the info, i think i am going to let someone prime and paint it for me and have them hang it since i don't have the space to work on it. Appreciate the responses.
