Sunoco Concept Hood for 93-97 Camaros (Opinions Needed!)
Sunoco Concept Hood for 93-97 Camaros (Opinions Needed!)
GetaZforgetGT, tfs95z28 and I have been brainstorming ideas for a Sunoco-like hood for the 93-97 Camaro's, and with GetaZ's expert translation of our ideas into Photoshop renderings, here's what we came up with. What do you think?

As a side note, difference between 1 and 3 is that in number 3 the vents are moved to the very edge of the hood.
In 1,2,and 4 the vent channel is carried the whole way to the windshield cowl.

#4's starting to grow on me. I think what would make that version look sleeker is if instead of doing a flare like on a traditional cowl hood where it pops up out of the scoop like a ridge, it should be inverted like a valley and mayyybe possibly have a gradual taper from the top of the hood down to the bottom. (Be in a slight "V" shape.)

i always said that the center line should be an indentation, not a raised ridge... maybe i miscommunicated my opinion. Oh well, i still vote for 2 with the center indentation in the hood to fade out aroud the same spot as the outside ridges...
funny, the only people posting are the ones involved in the original thread...

Mmmmm... in all honesty, I don't think I like any of them. Can you show the original pic of the car with the stock hood so I can give Photoshopping it a try?

I'll get one together and PM you and tfs95z28 with it. No need to keep adding to the cluter on this thread.

Sorry, I just didn't think the cowl was wide and flat enough. Your designs slightly clash with the aerodynamic looks of the LT1 Camaros.
Unfortunately, I was impatient, and since it wasn't hard to find a black Camaro pic, I went ahead and found my own. Don't know if you'll like it, but it's just an idea.

Looks good but it looks a little similar to the VFN 2" cowl hood. There are some subtle differences to it but not sure any manufacture would want to step on VFN's toes.

Here's a link to what got us started on the designs above.

Hmm, yeah, you're right. Mine's a little taller, and I tried to show that the vents were removed and just a subtle line would remain, but it's similar.
How exactly would a Sunoco Camaro hood be different than any other cowl hood for an LT1 though? I know the hood is waaaaay different from cowl hoods for LS1s, but without the "snake eye" lines on the hood, it's kinda just a normal cowl right?

I was going to PM this to fury and tfs95z28 just to keep the thread clean but why not just post it here and keep the interest up.
The Sunoco hood uses more of a 45deg drop from the top of the cowl.
VFN is a 90deg drop and some have mentioned how they don't like the straight drop.

1. Because the cowl scoop itself it more contoured and has softer lines than an old school cowl hood. (Which all LT1 cowl hoods I've seen are.)
2. There seem to be two different types of cowl hoods for LT1's: either one where it looks like they started with a totally blank flat hood that had no shape to it whatsoever, and grafted the old school cowl onto it, or the type like the VFN hood where it looks like a stock hood that had a cowl grafted onto it.
On ours, we were trying to make it look like if you took the scoop off, it would still look like a different hood than stock. It's difficult to do a hood that has a fresh design but doesn't overdo it and end up looking like something that came off a frankenstein freakmobile, but also something that isn't just plain jane and boring.

Brangeta, what app did you design yours in? I like the effect that has and I don't have it in my Photoshop that I know of but I'm fairly new to the photoshop game so I could have missed it.
